Ok now let us get on with it ….(drum roll)………. CHL trade fury! I will not analyze all of the trades because then this article would not be finished until next month, so here we go with a bunch of highlights after January 1st
WHL
Not a lot of massive name turnover in the WHL at the beginning of the year
Seattle really unloaded and built for the future on January 1st and 2nd sending:
- Zack Andrusiak to the Everette Silvertips for Sean Richards, Brendan Williamson, 2nd Rnd ’19, 3rd Rnd. ’21 and a conditional 4th Rnd. ’22
- Liam Hughes and 8th Rnd. ’19 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for Keltie Jeri-Leon, Michael Horon, and 4th Rnd. ’19
- Reece Harsch to Saskatoon for Zach Ashton and 5th Rnd. ’22
Swift Current Broncos sent Joel Hofer to the Portland Winterhawks for 1st Rnd. ’19, 3rd Rnd. ’19, 2nd Rnd. ’20, 4th Rnd. ’20, 5th Rnd. ’20, and 1st Rnd. ’21
Medicine Hat sent Henry Rybinski to Seattle for Aidan Brook, 2nd Rnd. ’19 and 3rd Rnd. ’20
Brandom Wheat Kings sent Schael Higson to Kelowna for Braydyn Chizen and 5th Rnd. ’19

QMJHL
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies made four big moves from January 4th to the 6th sending:
- Maximilien Ledoux, 3rd Rnd 2019, 4th Rnd 2019, 4th Rnd 2020, 1st Rnd 2021 and 4th Rnd 2021 to Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (BLB) for Joel Teasdale
- Pierre-Olivier Bourgeois to the Shawinigan Cataractes for 3rd Rnd 2019 and 5th Rnd 2019 (BLB)
- William Dufour, 1st Rnd 2019, 1st Rnd 2020, 2nd Rnd 2020, 2nd Rnd 2021 and 3rd Rnd 2021 to Chicoutimi Saguenéens (CS) for 1st Rnd 2019, 2nd Rnd 2019, 1st Rnd 2020 and 1st Rnd 2021 (Acadie-Bathurst Titan)
- The biggest move came from them obtaining Noah Dobson from Acadie-Bathurst for 1st Rnd 2019 (CS), 2nd Rnd 2019 (CS), 1st Rnd 2020 (CS) and 1st Rnd 2021 (BAT)
Drummondville Voltigeurs obtained Michal Ivan from Acadie-Bathurst for Oliver Turan and 3rd Rnd 2020, and on the same day acquired Shane Bowers for Ryan Leonard and Max Sauve. They also acquired Remy Anglehart and 6th Rnd 2019 from Blainville-Boisbriand for Benjamin Corbeil and 6th Rnd 2020.

OHL
The bigger names really got moved around here
On January 3rd Mississauga traded Ryan McLeod to the Saginaw Spirit for Duncan Penman, 3rd Rnd 2019 (LDN), 2nd Rnd 2020, 3rd Rnd 2022, 3rd Rnd 2024, and 2nd 202 (conditional)*. Two days later the Steelheads moved Owen Tippitt also to Saginaw for Aidan Prueter, 3rd Rnd 2019, 7th Rnd 2019, 2nd Rnd 2020 (BAR), 3rd Rnd 2020 (SAR), 7th Rnd 2020, and 2nd Rnd 2021 (SBY).
All on January 5th Guelph obtained:
- MacKenzie Entwistle from the Hamilton Bulldogs for 2nd Rnd 2020 (KIT), 2nd Rnd 2020 (NB), 3rd Rnd 2020 (KIT), 3rd Rnd 2021 (WSR) and 3rd Rnd 2023
- Markus Phillips from Oshawa for 2nd Rnd 2019 (PBO – conditional), 2nd Rnd 2020 (MISS), 3rd Rnd 2021 (ER), 2nd Rnd 2022 (NB), 3rd Rnd 2024 and 4th Rnd 2023 (conditional)
- Fedor Gordeev from Flint for 2nd Rnd 2021 (MISS), 2nd Rnd 2024, 3rd Rnd 2022 (SBY – conditional) and 5th Rnd 2022 (conditional)
Kingston moved Brett Neumann to Oshawa for Nick Wong, 2nd Rnd 2021 (KGN), 3rd Rnd 2019 (KGN) and 2nd Rnd 2024 (WSR – conditional)
Oshawa sent Matt Brassard and Jack Studnicka to Niagra for Lleyton Moore, 2nd Rnd 2020 (LDN), 2nd Rnd 2021 (OSH), 2nd Rnd 2022 (MISS), 3rd Rnd 2022 (PBO), 3rd Rnd 2023 and 3rd Rnd 2024 (MISS).
Kyle Maksimovich was moved by the Erie Otters to the Ottawa 67’s for Austen Swankler, 2nd Rnd 2019 (NIAG), 13th Rnd(?) 2019, 2nd Rnd 2020 and 2nd Rnd 2024 (conditional).
Hamilton made a few moved sending:
- Brandon Saigeon to Oshawa for 2nd Rnd 2019 (LDN), 2nd Rnd 2022 and 3rd Rnd 2024
- Nicolas Mattinen also to Oshawa for Eric Henderson, 2nd Rnd 2020 (LDN) and 3rd Rnd 2022 (PBO)
The Owen Sound Attack made a HUGE trade yesterday (well today as I write this) sending Sean Durzi, Zachary Roberts, and Nick Suzuki to Guelph for Barret Kirwin, Zach Poirier, Mark Woolley, 4th Rnd 2019, 3rd Rnd 2021, 2nd Rnd 2022 and 3rd Rnd 2022 (conditional)
Guelph just shot up ALL rankings
