Observations:

August 2016 – The former 5th round pick of the St.Louis Blues, Jaedon Descheneau came into his 20 year old season looking for an entry level contract. Unfortunately, two games into the season he suffered a back shoulder injury which side lined him for the rest of the season, but that isn’t what you should focus on when it comes to Descheneau. The former line mate of Sam Reinhart, Descheneau is a smaller forward who has consistently produced at the WHL level. In fact, the season that he and Reinhart were drafted, he put up a spectacular 98 points in just 70 games and was awarded WHL East 2nd all-star team honors. If it weren’t for his devastating injury early last season, he could potentially have led Kootenay in scoring and been a stop 20 year old in the WHL. Luckily for him, the Bakersfield Condors decided to give Leduc native a chance in the AHL. Going into his first pro season, I expect that Descheneau will definitely help the Condors offensively and will earn more ice time as the season goes on. Brayden Sullivan

May 2015 – Descheneau has become one of the better snipers in the WHL while playing for the Kootenay Ice. He had a fantastic 2013-14 season with 98 points, and another 20 points in the playoffs. His critics say his large point totals stem from his linemate and super-prospect, Sam Reinhart. His supporters would argue that he had a great 2014-15 campaign without Reinhart, by putting up 81 points on a team with less skill. He seems to play his best in clutch situations, and plays well in the playoffs. Descheneau has great speed, and makes plays offensively, but he is a little small, and that will have a large impact on his NHL success. He is a feisty kid though. After going undrafted in 2013 he came back and had his best season yet. Constantly being labeled undersized, he has gained weight each year, improving on his NHL outlook. Jaedon will likely find a spot with the Blues AHL affiliate, Chicago Wolves next year. He is probably a project at this point, but he is worth keeping your eye on. –Matt Kowalski
