Observations:

June 2015 – Shugg finished his best season as a pro in 2014-15 leading the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers in goals (21), points (43), and power play goals (7). This past season marked the 4th straight season that the winger has increased his point totals at the AHL level. His play earned him a three game call-up to the Hurricanes at the end of the season, but Shugg was held off of the score sheet and will be looking for his first NHL point next season. As a volume scorer at the junior level, Shugg utilizes his above average release to pot goals at the AHL level, but it is unlikely he will be able to create enough space or be given enough power play time to have it be a major asset at the NHL level. He has improved drastically from his first couple professional seasons where he split time between the ECHL’s Florida Everblades and the Checkers to become a mainstay in the AHL.

Like many of the Canes forward prospects in Charlotte, he will not impact from a fantasy perspective in the near future. He is an RFA going into this offseason, but is a player that the Hurricanes will more than likely look to sign. Unless he has a great training camp, Shugg will start the 2015-16 season in Charlotte, but could be one of the Hurricanes first forward call-ups from a thin prospect pool. Kevin LeBlanc

March, 2013 – Proved to be too dominant at the ECHL level and is probably in the AHL to stay. Doesn't have outstanding skill, but is one of those players who can sneak up on you with his numbers if given the chance. – Dobber

February 2012 – Shugg was a two-time OHL and Memorial Cup Champion as a member of the very talented Windsor Spitfires in 2009 & 2010. He has a scoring touch and the ability to always go 100%. Plays tough every shift and willing to work the corners every shift, but like most prospects needs to hone all aspects of his game. In first year as pro, has split time between the Florida Everblades (ECHL) and Charlotte Checkers (AHL).

Fantasy Outlook: D

Fringe NHL player with some offensive ability, but would need a top-line role to make a fantasy impact.
