Observations:

 

February 2015 – Less than a year after signing with the Montreal Canadiens as a 22-year-old free agent, Jiri Sekac is on the move in a trade to Anaheim for Devante Smith-Pelly. Sekac will get a fresh breathe of life after struggling to carve out a role under Terrien in Montreal. In 49 games with the Canadiens, Sekac produced 16 points (same total as Devante in Anaheim) and will look to establish himself as a regular among a competitive group of right wingers in Anaheim. In Montreal, Sekac skated 25% of the time alongside Lars Eller and Tomas Plekanec. Brendan Ross

 

December 2014 – After putting up just one point in his first seven games, he has 11 in his last 18 and is now playing next to Tomas Plekanec on the second line. While he will likely never be a star-level forward, it is looking more and more like the Habs may have found a real diamond in the rough. Eric Daoust

 

November 2014 – Sekac has been a frequent healthy scratch primarily due to the Canadiens having an abundance of available bodies. To add some mystery to Sekac's fantasy outlook, his rights were recently traded in the KHL leading some to speculate that he may depart from North America somewhere down the road. October 2014 – Sekac has made the Canadiens' opening night roster and has spent time on Tomas Plekanec's line. However, he has been held without a point and has yet to register a shot through three games. Even though he is showing signs of having a good NHL career ahead of him, it remains to be seen how much of his talent will translate into points. July 2014 – The  Canadiens  signed prospect Jiri Sekac to a two-year entry-level contract, beating out several teams looking to sign the free-agent prospect. There are a lot of unknowns with this player but he has learned to work harder and play better in his own end over the years. Most noticeable is his surge of production last year as he enjoyed a breakout season with the KHL's Prague Lev, finishing second on the team with 11 goals and 28 points in 47 contests. What is clear is that the Habs have put their hands on a talented prospect that is capable of putting up points. The wait time may not be long as Sekac will likely be in the mix for a roster spot on opening night this fall. Eric Daoust
