Observations:
February 2014 – Shirokov is enjoying a semi-productive KHL season which has been split between CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk. He has 31 points in 50 games combined and it is likely he will be staying there at season’s end. Don’t bother with him unless you’re in a KHL fantasy league… Nathan Kanter
May, 2012 – After failing to make the Canucks roster, Shirokov headed to the KHL in the summer of 2011 to join CSKA Moscow. After he signed that contract, his rights got traded to the Florida Panthers. It will be at least two years before he will be seen in the NHL again. Shirokov once wowed the crowd in the WJC with his impressive stick handling, finishing ability and vision. Those skills have allowed him to be a star in the KHL. However, he lacks the speed and dynamic to ever be an elite option in the NHL.
Fantasy Outlook: C+
Safe bet as a supporting scorer. Big question mark is if he ever comes back over.
