Observations:
October 2014 – Marchessault has impressed at Tampa Bay's training camp playing on a line with Cedric Paquette and Vladislav Namestnikov. Marchessault is still exempt from waivers and with Tampa Bay having plenty of scoring depth, it's still highly likely he'll spend the majority of the season in the AHL. However after his performance in training camp, Marchessault's stock could be on a rise. Randall Buschmann
March 2014 – It should be noted he dropped the "Audy" part of his last name in an attempt to make things easier for his children. Randall Buschmann
March 2014 – NHL Trade Deadline: The undersized Jonathan Marchessault was part of a four player trade that sent him and Dalton Smith to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Dana Tyrell and Matt Taormina. Playing for Springfield, Marchessualt has posted 14 goals and 40 points in 57 games this season. Brendan Ross
March 2013 – Its rather disappointing Columbus is not giving Marchessault a proper opportunity yet. He is showing the dominance at the AHL level that Dobber alluded to in his comparisons of Cory Conacher and David Desharnais, and is in my viewings he is even more of a game breaker than that pair. His puck dispersal will bring you up from your seat and he is not totally one dimensional. He does need a little work with his positioning without the puck, but when needed he is rather responsible. Columbus sniped a strong ‘diamond in the rough’ from the Rangers when they signed him to an NHL contract in the summer. For a team struggling to produce goals, it is beyond comprehension for them not to try anything to help the goalies who are wasting quality starts. If the Blue Jackets get extremely desperate and give him a real run in the top six, he is a prospect to watch and to pluck off the waiver wire and ride for a bit and see where it goes. (Personally, I did that with David Desharnais when we was originally recalled and eventually sold him off in a trade that led me to win a championship last year.) His size makes him a bit of a question mark long-term, but Marty St. Louis proves it can be done and be very profitable. Jason Banks
November, 2012 – An undersized, skilled forward reminds of Cory Conacher without the tenacity. JAM's stature, combined with good, but not great QMJHL numbers caused him to be overlooked in the draft both years. A 95-point breakout for Quebec as an over-ager caught the attention of the Rangers and he received a training camp invite in 2011. He parlayed that into an AHL job with Connecticut where his 64 points as a rookie impressed. The Blue Jackets gave him an NHL contract, and he rightfully figured that he would have more opportunity to crack the roster there than in New York. Currently ninth in AHL scoring with 12 points in 10 games. He's also playing with more bite. If he finishes the season this way, he could be the next (goal-scoring version) of David Desharnais.
Fantasy Outlook: C+
Marchessault has yet to be given a real chance to stick in the NHL, and he's with a team with an abundance of young up and coming players at the forward position. He'll have to continue improving and force his hand, but there's potential here.
