May 2018 – Thirty-one games for the ECHL’s Brampton Beast seemed fitting for the pugnacious Dunn, who’s on a first-name basis with penalty-box attendants in multiple leagues. After four assists, and 29 PIM in 17 outings for the AHL’s Belleville Senators, the new Beast struck for 70 PIM with Brampton, adding 10 goals and eight assists. A throw-in as part of the three-way transaction that brought Derick Brassard to the Penguins, Dunn has been on the wrong side of the plus/minus rating in each of his pro seasons. He is an RFA whom Pittsburgh is unlikely to extend. Mark Allan
February 2018 – Not to be mistaken for skilled blueliner Vince Dunn, 22-year-old Vincent arrived via Ottawa in the three-team deal that brought Derick Brassard to Pittsburgh. A center capable of playing LW, Vincent has divided his third pro campaign evenly between the AHL and ECHL. Not known for much offense and not built for beast mode at 6-0 and 190 pounds, Dunn nevertheless enthusiastically piles up PIMs (154 in one 55-game ECHL season alone). Unless the Penguins plan to replace departed tough guy Ryan Reaves with him on their fourth line, Dunn’s future appears to be in the minors. Mark Allan
June 2017 – Four years after being drafted, a dozen AHL games over the course of three seasons is as close as Dunn has made it to the show. The majority of his first two professional season have been spent in the ECHL where he’s racked up PIM totals of 154 and 86 but that’s about where the good news ends as he hasn’t been able to replicate the scoring touch he showed in his second and third year of junior. In today’s NHL there’s no room for one dimensional goons and that’s what Dunn is shaping up to be and is a long, long way away from even getting a sniff. Brad Phillips
March 2015 – Dunn has had continued success with his edgy style of play in 2014-15, after a trade prior to the season sent him from his hometown Gatineau Olympiques to the powerhouse Rimouski Oceanic. Not counted on to be as much of a primary scorer with the Oceanic, Dunn’s points numbers are down this season. However, he still affects the game in important ways. The bullish winger is first on his team and third in the QMJHL in PIMs with 151 in just 46 games. He has scored 19 goals (seven on the PP) this season after netting 31 and 25 in the two seasons prior. Dunn is player who can get under an opposing teams skin, battle hard in the corners and score hardnosed goals in front of the net both on the power play and at even strength. It will be his irritating, physical play that carves him a niche at the NHL level. His style of play may move him through the minor league ranks quickly after he finishes his last season in the Q.
