*** Readers from the last few years know that seeing NHL prospects score their first ever goal is one of my favorite things about covering the sport. These kids and their families worked insanely hard to get where they are, and its all worth it as soon as they get that puck in the net. [...]
*** We're getting into the meat of the pre-season, when good prospects are getting cut every day as teams edge towards an opening-night roster. The last few days have been heavy on the cuts and waiver listings, and there will be more to come this week. Here's a list of notable could've-been NHLers we [...]
The Canucks made news this weekend when they signed veteran Thomas Vanek to a one-year, 2 million dollar deal. At this point in his career, Vanek is a successful journeyman who will likely bring back a draft pick at the trade deadline, making him a decent investment for a team still stockpiling young blood. But [...]
*** I had planned to write about UFA Will Butcher's fit with whatever team he decides on, but it seems his life-changing decision schedule doesn't match up with my rambling schedule. It may be summer outside, but its always hockey season in our hearts. There is ALWAYS hockey to be watching and this week we're lucky to have the World Junior Summer Showcase - the first chance of the season for youngsters to show off their talent in hopes of landing a spot to represent [...]
This week, the DobberProspect writers started our annual prospect draft for our fantasy league. Kevin LeBlanc wrote this article earlier which covered the first round of picks, doing a great job at figuring out who the value picks were, and why some players were taken perhaps higher or lower than pure talent would dictate. [...]
We're getting into the doldrums of the offseason, but several talented young players are waiting for contracts. Lots of these players are high-profile names that don't quite qualify as prospects anymore, but I do think its time to ramble about a few lesser-known pieces that have unclear futures. The following players are probably on someone's [...]
The head coach can make all the difference from young players trying to make a name for themselves in the NHL. This effect will be amplified more than ever on the vegas Golden Knights, a rag-tag team of players who, for the most part, have never played together before which leaves an enormous amount of [...]
