William Tomko

August 2026 – Tomko was taken in the seventh round by Seattle, but has some intrigue in his underlying numbers that may allow him to outperform his draft position if they prove to be accurate.

Despite the draft position, he was a 90th percentile player in most offensive categories according to Instat. We will need to see him playing against bigger and tougher competition to see if the game translates and the relative performance keeps up, but the Kraken have the making of a bottom-six player with some decent offensive play driving if he develops well. We won’t know for a while.

October 2025 – Now in Sioux City after a May trade from Chicago, Tomko slots into a middle-six role and early special teams auditions. He brings straight-line speed, a heavy first three steps, and a willingness to drive the middle, which fits Sioux City’s rush game. Last season, he produced 10 goals and 23 points with the Steel, with late-season flashes versus the NTDP that showed improved touch off the rush. On retrievals, he supports low, shields on his forehand, and plays quickly to the inside lane or low-to-high. Off puck, he arrives early at the net front for tips and second chances, and he tracks hard through the neutral zone to kill plays. Next steps are a quicker catch-and-release from the slot, more deception off entries, and cleaner puck protection under contact. Penn State has him on the books for 2026–27, so a two-year college runway is realistic. If the shot threat and decision speed tick up, he projects as a bottom-six pivot who adds board wins, net-front touches, and streaming value in hits with spot goals. Andrew Epps
