Observations

September 2026 – Wesley Royston is a big, fast power winger the Montreal Canadiens took 190th overall, a size-and-skating swing on a player whose production has not caught up to his tools. He split 2025-26 between the Erie Otters and Owen Sound Attack after an October trade, finishing with 12 goals and 19 points in 59 games and 80 penalty minutes. At 6-foot-4 he is one of the fastest skaters in the Ontario Hockey League at any size, a genuinely rare trait, and his shot is better than the point totals suggest, with in-stride wristers and net-front finishes when he commits to the hard areas. When he is engaged, he is a hammer on the forecheck and along the walls. The problem is consistency, and it is real: too many nights the physical presence and the offense both disappear. Central Scouting still ranked him 80th among North American skaters, and the Dallas Stars were among the teams that interviewed him. He returns to Owen Sound for 2026-27. For fantasy he is a boom-or-bust bottom-six power-forward flyer whose ceiling depends entirely on stringing together the effort, so treat him as a deep-league monitor, with a more consistent, higher-scoring season the thing to watch before any add.
