Tyler Brennan

July 2025 – Tyler Brennan’s 2024-25 season did not do much to quiet concerns about his trajectory. In 29 games with Adirondack, he went 9-16-3 with a 3.48 GAA and an .878 save percentage, tough numbers, especially after a limited but more encouraging showing the year before (.896 SV%, 3.16 GAA in 13 games). The heavier workload did not lead to progress, and instead highlighted the inconsistency that has held him back. Brennan still has the size and raw tools the Devils liked when they drafted him, but he has not put it together yet. At this point, he is battling just to prove he can lock down an ECHL crease. He is very much a long-term project, and a bounce-back year is likely his only shot at staying relevant in the pipeline. Puneet Sharma

January 2024 – Tyler Brennan has graduated from the WHL, currently in the ECHL, where he has been nursing an injury. In 4 games played, Brennan has a 3.64GAA and a .898SV%. There’s still hope for him to rebound, but his SV% has always been mixed, he’ll need to take a big step in the pros to justify the high praise he got as a draft prospect. – Austin Kelly

July 2022 – The Devils have added one of the best goaltender prospects in this draft class, although that isn’t saying much given how low on high-end netminders this crop is. Brennan has a lot of Nico Daws in him, and the two could perhaps be a decent 1A/1B tandem in a couple years’ time. Hadi Kalakeche

July 2022 – The New Jersey Devils have selected Brennan in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, 102nd overall. Nick Richard

January 2022 — Brennan is the top netminder on NHL Central Scouting’s North American Goaltenders list at the moment, and has a lot of interesting tools upon which to build his game. Behind a losing record (8-12-0), a 3.43 goals against average and a .902 save percentage hides a composed goaltender with great edgework which helps him cover his posts, an active mind and an impressive tendency to divert pucks into areas for his teammates to pick up. As is the case for every goaltender in this draft, there are weaknesses in his game which will likely keep him out of the top-two rounds, such as his inefficiency on shots that force him to squeeze his arms to his chest and his inconsistent puck-playing, both in terms of his handling ability and the moments he chooses to activate behind his net. He reads shooters’ intentions well, but can fall into anticipation easily and can bite hard on redirects, fakes and dekes.

The Prince George Cougars netminder will see added responsibilities as the team has traded its first-string goaltender, Taylor Gauthier, to make way for Brennan in net, and will likely improve upon his numbers as the year goes on as a result of the increasing amount of starts. Hadi Kalakeche
