June 2022 – Sixth round picks are hard to project. They are especially hard to project when they are drafted out of United States High school hockey, only to play just three games in the Finnish U20 league the following season, and then finally, play only eight games in the NCAA the next (recording two points). He has now transferred to St. Lawrence University and will play there this season. Mazura has played a total of 11 games over the past two seasons and a total of 96 games over the last six seasons. So, what does this all mean? It means that no one, not even the Oilers, has a clue as to what they have in this player. Yes, he produced well in the USHS in his draft season (2019-2020) but he has hardly played any hockey since and will be turning 22-years-old in September. He is a long shot at best to play in the NHL. Jameson Ewasiuk
October 2020 – Mazura just turned 20-years-old on September 23rd and now finds himself playing in Finland for HIFK of the U20 SM-Sarja. In three games for HIFK, the Czech forward has recorded three points and 14 penalty minutes in three games. Overall, the 2019 sixth-round pick has had a solid start in Finland but the sample size is small. Mazura is still a project and it will likely be a couple more seasons before we know what the Oilers have in this player. Jameson Ewasiuk
January 2020 – There is not a whole lot known on Mazura and his play in the USHS-prep but by all accounts, he is one of the top players in that league. He has also played in four games for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL where he has recorded three points. Mazura is a project pick whose upside will be tough to predict until he starts consistently playing stronger competition. Jameson Ewasiuk
July 2019 – Mazura is is an interesting pick for the Oilers, as he is a big forward known for his strong puck skills and playmaking abilities. Last season for Kimball Union Academy he recorded 14 goals and 54 points in 37 games but it is safe to say the US prep school is not the best competition. His season was impressive considering the fact that he only played eight games in 2017-2018 and missed the entire 2016-2017 season. Mazura is committed to play at Providence College for the 2020-2021 season and should be considered a project at this point. Jameson Ewasiuk
