Taylor Makar

June 2026 – Colorado has extended Makar for two more seasons. His rookie AHL campaign resulted in good multi-cat numbers (24 points, 92 SOG, lots of hits and 56 PIMS in 54 games), so despite his late start the 25-year-old still has upside as a 4th line energy-generator. Unfortunately for him, the Avs are in win-now mode so he has limited call-up potential to take that next step within the next few years on such a deep squad. Hayden Soboleski

January 2026 – Makar has been called up again for more injury fill-in duties. In two more NHL outings he’s receiving typical Colorado 4th-line minutes (roughly 7:00 aTOI) but is managing more hits this time around (roughly 2 per game rather than 1), while also averaging 1 SOG per game. There is a trajectory here to becoming a stream-able fantasy asset in deep multi-cat leagues, but its still unlikely that a team as competitive as Colorado will be icing Makar when everyone’s healthy, especially after the trade deadline. November 2025 – Makar got called up for his first NHL contest, registering 6 minutes of ice time with one hit to show for it. He was promptly returned to the AHL. His start with the Eagles has been promising (4 points and 16 SOG in 9 games), but he is still finding the line between being physical and being undisciplined. His moderate PIM count may look good to fantasy owners but it’s padded by penalties that will hold him back from further usage. If he can calibrate his play through more pro seasoning, he has fourth-line multi-cat potential. Hayden Soboleski

August 2025 – The Colorado Avalanche signed Makar, their 7th-round draft pick from 2021, to a 1-year ELC beginning in 2025-26 on March 31, 2025. The brother of superstar defenseman Cale Makar may be getting more attention than he would with a different last name. Still, this signing isn’t a surprise given his presence in Colorado’s last few training camps. He has consistently brought high energy and intensity to rookie camps and training camps, which has been positively noted by coaches and teammates, despite not being in the running for a pro job until now. With organizational prospect depth at a low, Makar may actually see good AHL usage next season despite being a 24-year-old coming off a shooting-percentage-fueled career-high of 20 points in 38 contests as an NCAA senior. The outlook isn’t all negative, however – his scoring was mostly done at even strength, he racks up PIMs, and he brings peripheral stats to the table. If he can continue to impress the organization, he may become a depth multi-cat option. Hayden Soboleski
