Taylor Makar

March 2025 – Colorado has signed Makar, their 7th-round draft pick from 2021, to a 1-year ELC beginning in 2025-26. The brother of superstar defenseman Cale Makar may be getting more attention than he would with a different last name, but this signing isn’t a surprise given his presence in Colorado’s last few training camps. He has always brought high energy and high intensity during rookie camps and training camps, which has been positively noted by coaches and teammates despite him not being in the running for a pro job until now. With organizational prospect depth at a low, Makar may actually see good AHL usage next season despite being a 24-year-old coming off a shooting-percentage-fueled career-high of 20 points in 38 contests as an NCAA senior. The outlook isn’t all negative however – his scoring was done mostly at even strength, he puts up PIMs, plus be brings peripheral stats to the table, so if he can continue to impress the organization he may become a depth multi-cat option.
