March 2019 – The Rangers’ third-round draft-pick from four summers ago continues to develop in Sweden, currently with the SHL’s Lulea. After being drafted playing primarily in the second-tier Allsvenskan league, he’s made progress at an inconsistent rate for what you would expect from a third round selection. After signing his ELC a year removed from his draft, Kovacs had a disastrous debut season with the Hartford Wolfpack. The disappointment left both the team and the player looking for a way out, and resulted in the termination of his ELC and the prospect returning to Sweden to play in the SHL. Kovacs is a somewhat gritty forward who gets heavily involved in the offensive zone. He shows flashes of creativity and strong hockey sense but depends on a consistent and strong effort to complete the offensive loop. Brayden Olafson
