Fantasy Summary

A big winger with an edge and a huge bag of tricks. Projects as a top-6 power forward. He should find minutes on a league-worst NHL powerplay to end the 2025-26 season.

Observations

March 2026 – Martone signed his entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on March 29. The 19-year-old winger  scored 25 goals and posted 50 points in 35 games with the Michigan State Spartans (NCAA) in the 2025-26 season. Martone won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championships where he scored six goals and totaled nine points in seven games. The 6-3 winger is projected as a top-6 power forward with playmaking skills. Martone’s addition could have an immediate impact on Philadelphia’s league-worst powerplay, so fantasy GM’s would be smart to claim him for an added scoring punch in your league playoffs (or next season for dynasty player), if available. August 2025 – Martone dominated the OHL last season totaling 98 points in 57 games for the Brampton Steelheads. Due to a run on the center position in the 2025 NHL Draft, Martone fell to the Flyers at 6th overall when most publications had him ranked as a top three selection. He is a winger with size and plus-scoring ability who could prove to be an excellent compliment to Matvei Michkov.

Martone is due to join Michigan State (NCAA) for the 2025-26 season, where he will join second-round pick Shane Vansaghi in the quest for an NCAA Championship in 2025-26. He could be a late season addition for the Flyers following the conclusion of the NCAA schedule after expressing an intent to try to make the Flyers out of training camp this season. Martone is expected to play for Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships in December 2025. Chris Babos

July 2025 – Selected at sixth overall, Porter Martone is now a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. Shortly after draft weekend, Martone announced his commitment to Michigan State of the NCAA. Alex Wyatt

Final Rankings – In the first half of the season, Martone looked like he could challenge for the first overall pick. The 6’3 winger was producing at over a 2PPG pace while looking like a dominant offensive catalyst. After a quiet World Juniors, Martone seemed to fade a bit while appearing less confident, losing his chance at contending for a top pick. An average skater who can lose out in chases hasn’t helped his case. Despite having a power forward build, Martone hasn’t emerged as such beyond having the frame to one day do it. Some moments of flash and intensity seem to indicate there’s more Martone can do that he’s still unlocking, he may need a bit more time to get to his peak, much like Tom Wilson as a youngster who took a few years in the NHL to get to where he is now. A good Worlds seems to have renewed his confidence and optimism that he’ll be able to bounce back next season. First line potential, especially if the physicality comes.—Austin Kelly

January 2025 – Martone may not be getting as much buzz for first-overall, but its hard to find issue with his body of work. So far, Martone has been one of the CHL’s best. A big winger with an edge and a huge bag of tricks, Martone has used his frame, physicality, shot, creativity, and highlight-reel hands to run roughshod over the OHL, truly leading by example as captain of the Brampton Steelheads. Though he’s coming off a less-than-stellar World Juniors appearance, between his pro-ready frame and his ridiculous production in the OHL, it is hard to see Martone lasting long on draft day.   Luke Sweeney
