Mikus Vecvanags

July 2025 – With the goaltending depth that Montreal has in their prospect pool, it is hard to imagine Vecvanags ever becoming fantasy relevant for the Habs. Even if he were traded to another team, his limited playing time over the years (due to being a consistent backup) likely means he would only be a top AHL backup. He will be playing in the NCAA in 2025-26, where some goalies have gotten more opportunity to show they can be more than their games played totals suggest. If he can play more than 20 games for Maine in 2025-26 and have a strong SV%, the likelihood of becoming an AHL netminder one day will increase. Ioan Gheordanescu 

September 2024 – Mikus Vecvanags was drafted in the fifth round, 134th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens. At a reported 6-3, but only 159 pounds, Vecvanags has a long way to fill in his frame. Watching his play for team Latvia, it is clear that there is physical upside, but that he needs to fill out much more. Despite rumours he would be playing in the QMJHL, he will be the likely starter for Brooks of the BCHL this season. Goaltenders are unpredictable, and clearly the Canadiens saw something they liked in the Latvian. Aaron Itovitch
