October 2018 – What makes Kooy’s selection stand out even more than the average last round pick is that Vegas decided to trade their 7^th round pick next year (2019) to clearly get the guy they wanted. As with most goalies, Kooy is a very long way away from putting on an NHL jersey, but he is an intriguing pick and a player to watch over the next couple of years in the OHL. He was a backup last year for the London Knights and suited up for 24 games. Kooy finished the year with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage and should have a decent shot at taking over the starter’s job this season.  Early on he’s shared duty but has posted significantly better numbers in the Knights’ net with a 2.01 GAA and 0.935 save percentage.  It is a long season and the OHL is notably a high scoring league so don’t expect those numbers to continue, but he is inching his way towards a true starter on a very strong team.  Mason Black
