June 2025 – The New Jersey Devils acquired Hanzel along with a 2025 fourth-round pick (NSH) on June 18, 2025, from the Nashville Predators for Erik Haula. The 22-year-old Hanzel split the 2024-25 season between Nashville minor league affiliates, the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL) and Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), playing 65 games combined, the majority of which were played in the ECHL (61).
Hanzel was drafted in the sixth round (187th overall) in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche and was traded to the Nashville Predators on March 7, 2024, along with a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for Yakov Trenin and Graham Sward.
A career minor leaguer thus far in his professional career, Hanzel is entering the second year of a three-year entry-level contract signed initially on March 7, 2024, with the Colorado Avalanche. Hanzel is an organizational depth defenseman for the Devils. He is off the fantasy radar and does not need to be rostered. Mark Henry
