March 2020 – In his first full slate of professional games, the former WHL journeyman found a home with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL. Throughout his 36-game campaign, Elmer played a moderately effective role with some offensive contributions. The lack of skilled forward competition within the Rangers system may allow him to earn a position in the AHL next fall, however, he’ll need to show some significant growth before the expiration of his contract in 2022 if he has any hopes of continuing on his professional journey in North America. March 2019 – Singed as an unrestricted free agent after being passed over in the draft on several occasions, Elmer was a line-mate of Dylan Cozens in Lethbridge. Elmer’s birthday is unique in the sense that had he been born a day later, he would have remained eligible for the 2019 NHL entry draft. The 20-year-old has capitalized on much of Cozen’s playmaking ability, however, also provides a much needed finishing touch all on his own. A short stride is something that he might need to overcome with his strength to be effective at the pro level. Brayden Olafson
