Jackson Dorrington

July 2026 – Dorrington appeared in 70 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack in 2025-26, posting 11 points and a minus-11 rating on the poorly performing team, after a nine game trail stint the prior season. Following the disappointing campaign, in which the Pack missed the playoffs, there has been a pretty healthy turnover on the squad, including a new head coach Jay Leach. With an infusion of new talent and a full AHL season under his belt, Dorrington looks to build upon his game in 2026-27.

He is likely to spend at least one more full season at the AHL level before possibly getting a call up to the NHL, but the Rangers’ depth chart is getting very crowded, especially on the left side. Dorrington is signed through the 2027-28 season, but could possibly be dealt for futures at some point, if the New York brass doesn’t envision a solid path forward for him within the organization. September 2025 – Dorrington had an eventful year in 2024-25. While competing in his collegiate season with the Northeastern University Huskies, he was dealt to the Rangers in the JT Miller trade. He eventually signed an amateur tryout with his new organization’s AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, at the conclusion of his NCAA season. After posting 15 points in 37 games of play with the Huskies, the Massachusetts native appeared in nine games with the Wolf Pack, posting a goal and an assist.

The 6-2, 192 pound blueliner also gained valuable professional experience, and was mentored by fellow Massachusetts native, and Wolf Pack captain, Casey Fitzgerald. Dorrington took the information and experience into the offseason, armed with a plan of action to improve upon his game. He is likely to spend at least one full season at the AHL level, and is signed through the 2027-28 season. Brendan Ferry

March 2025– Upon his collegiate team being eliminated from the NCAA tournament, Dorrington signed his entry level contract with the Rangers organization. He will report to the Hartford Wolf Pack on an ATO (Amateur Tryout) for the remainder of the current season, prior to his deal kicking in for the 2025-26 season. Brendan Ferry

February 2025 – The Canucks dealt Dorrington to the New York Rangers as a part of the JT Miller trade. He’ll continue to play for Northeastern for the rest of the year before having the opportunity to sign with the Rangers. Dorrington joins a busy left side of the Rangers’ blue line. Zac Jones seems to have earned some time in the NHL, while Matthew Robertson and Connor Mackey currently man Hartford’s left side. Dorrington has had a strong year at Northeastern and may eventually find his way to Hartford. Cracking the NHL roster, however, may be challenging given the current state of the Rangers and the pieces he has to compete with. Nick Orr

November 2024 – Dorrington made vast improvements in 2023-24 after a solid freshman season. He netted six goals and finished with 12 points while vastly improving his defensive play. Dorrington is off to another great start this season, his junior year. The 2022 sixth-rounder is already up to five points in just 11 games with Northeastern. Additionally, Dorrington was named the Hockey East Defender of the Week. So far, Dorrington has made significant strides in his defensive game. He’s getting into shooting lanes and using his 6-2 frame to disrupt attackers. Dorrington will look to continue his high-level play and lead Northeastern for the rest of the season. Nick Orr

June 2023 – While it may not have been an explosive Freshman year by any means, Dorrington had a decent showing with the Northeastern Huskies. He scored no goals but contributed six assists in 35 games and showcased his defensive prowess, finishing the season with an impressive plus-4 rating. Despite being a left-hand shot, he played most of his minutes on the right side while showcasing his usual intimidating physical game and strong defensive skills. The 19-year-old will return to Northeastern and take on his Sophomore season, where he should play an increased role. Dave Hall

June 2022 – The Canucks made a promising selection in the 2022 NHL Draft, choosing Jackson Dorrington with the 176th overall pick. Dorrington, a 6-foot-2 defenceman, has showcased offensive potential despite modest point totals in the USHL. His ability to turn flashes of brilliance into consistent performance makes him an intriguing prospect to keep tabs on.

Defensively, he excels with a strong stick and physical play, effectively battling opponents along the boards and in front of the net. While his lateral mobility needs improvement, his straight-line skating allows him to cut off rushes in the neutral zone. His intelligence and transition game are highly praised, as he intelligently moves the puck up the ice, creating advantageous situations for his teammates. Offensively, he actively joins the play, utilizing quick give-and-go passes to generate scoring opportunities.

Dorrington’s skating and puckhandling skills need work, which he aims to address at Northeastern University next season. His posture limits his backward skating and speed, leading to occasional struggles when defending opponents. Despite these challenges, Dorrington’s mental aptitude for the game and occasional flashes of brilliance present an intriguing development prospect for the Canucks’ player development department.
