June 2021 – LaFontaine wrapped up an excellent second campaign at the University of Minnesota. He finished the year with a 22-7-0 record, 1.79 GAA and a 0.934 SV%. LaFontaine also walked away with some hardware for his performance, earning the 2021 Mike Richter award as the nation’s best college goalie. Rather than leaving college for the NHL, LaFontaine announced he would be heading back to school to continue his NCAA career next season. Austin Broad
