Hunter McDonald

July 2025 – Hunter McDonald’s NHL potential can be summed up by his AHL line in Lehigh Valley last season. In 71 games he scored four goals and added 14 assists, along with 99 penalty minutes. He took just over one shot a game, and saw a point earned on both special teams. A bottom-six swiss army knife who will throw the body and his fists, McDonald will add sandpaper to the Flyers should he get the call to Philadelphia. There’s no shortage of McDonald types on the waiver wire in our leagues, and unless your league is particularly deep, an investment in the 23 defenseman isn’t warranted at present. Alex Wyatt

March 2024 – McDonald has signed a PTO with the Philadelphia Flyers AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He leaves Northeastern after his Sophomore season having scored a goal and added five assists in 23 games after beginning the season coming back from injury. McDonald was named Hockey East’s best defensive defensemen of the 2022-23 season for Northeastern during his freshman season. James Iacovone

July 2022 – McDonald has been selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the 165th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. McDonald is set to play in the NCAA next season with Northeastern. John Gove
