June 2025 – Thrun had a quietly effective campaign for San Jose in 2024-2025, posting 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) across 60 games. He averaged just under one shot and one hit, and just over one block per game, while seeing 17 and a half minutes of ice time per night. Thrun featured more on the penalty kill (23% of available minutes) than the powerplay (5%), and saw eight of his ten assists be of the secondary variety.
Thrun is a capable NHLer, and still a young defenseman at just barely 24 years old, but with some of the defensemen- who in fairness still have to earn their keep and dethrone him- on the way, Thrun could see himself start to lose some fantasy relevance.
His 82 game average line over the last three seasons would equate to three goals, 14 assists, 32 penalty minutes, with 74 shots, 50 hits and 101 blocks. That’s a hard player to roster in most formats. Alex Wyatt
July 2024 – Playing 51 games in San Jose last season, Thrun will likely be a full-time NHL defenseman in 24-25. Recording 11 points in 2023-24, a minor boost in his production is possible. However, do not expect him to significantly impact the score sheet. John Gove
March 2023 – Thurn was traded to the San Jose Sharks for a 3rd round selection in 2024. The defenseman moves to a similar team in the standings but one with less competition on teh back end. He could flourish here, if he signs. Pat Quinn
February 2023 – Thrun has announced that he will not be signing with the Anaheim Ducks. The smart offensive defenseman has had a strong NCAA career, and will be a hot commodity in free agency. Aaron Itovitch
May 2022 – Further to the below note, as part of Team USA Thrun was thrust into the role of shutdown defenseman and he embraced it well, showing the defensive side to his game. After playing in the USHL for a year thanks to COVID shutting down the program at Harvard, Thrun returned for his sophomore season and dominated offensively. He finished seventh in the nation in scoring amongst defensemen. He will return to Harvard for his junior year and has already been named Team Captain. – Dobber
December 2020 – Thrun has officially made Team USA. This is a huge accomplishment for the Massachusetts native as many people are starting to recognize the talent the Harvard defenseman possesses. Lucas Main
December 2020 – In his first collegiate season, Thrun registered 21 points in 31 games and made the ECAC All-Rookie Team. The former 4th round pick has also made Team USA’s preliminary roster for the 2021 World Junior Championship. Many thought he was benefitting from playing on a stacked USNTDP, but in fact he may have been one of the reason’s that team experienced so much success. Keep him on your radar as he continues to rise. Lucas Main
March 2020 – Playing on a USNTDP filled with first round talent, Thrun flew under the radar. The Anaheim Ducks selected him in the fourth round and he currently plays in the NCAA for Harvard University. He contributes in all three zones, providing crisp breakout passes and the ability to skate with the puck from end to end. He has good size (6-foot-1), but could stand to gain some weight to win more puck battles. Lucas Main
