Dmitri Katelevsky

April 2021 – Katelevsky is a defensive-minded forward who has played the year in the VHL, the Russian second-tier league. He was able to put up 16 points in 43 games against men but he is going to make a living because he is able to suppress shots and get play moving the other way. He needs to refine his puck skills a bit but he does find a way to push shot differentials favorably because he has a high work rate and the desire to play defensively in a league where not many players make that decision. He shows excellent anticipation and awareness and with some coaching and development, he should be able to utilize those traits at the offensive end. He shows so much off-puck excellence with the ability to read the play and get to the proper spot. His decision-making with the puck needs to take a step but he is routinely outplaying men on the defensive side of the puck. He has a decent shot but he is at his best around the net, banging in pucks and creating havoc for defenders. He is a ‘try-hard’ guy without a doubt and the base-level skills are solid enough to build upon. He may not be a fantasy star by any means but he will be a player that could be a valuable cog on a winning team at the NHL level. Tony Ferrari
