June 2023 – Gauthier was one of 44 USA prospects invited to the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp/World Junior Summer Showcase, which will occur from July 27, 2023, to August 4, 2023, in Plymouth, Michigan. The event is part of the selection process for Team USA before the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, from December 26, 2023, through January 5, 2024. Mark Henry
May 2023 – A freshman in 2022-23 at Boston College, Gauthier produced 37 points (16G, 21A) in 32 games. He played for Team USA at the 2023 Worlds Junior Championship as a first-line winger, scoring four goals and adding six assists in seven games. Gauthier finished his impressive 2022-23 campaign playing for Team USA at the 2023 IIHF World Championships, where he didn’t disappoint, registering nine points (7G, 2A) in 10 games. Gauthier will return to Boston College as a sophomore for the 2023-24 season and continue to work on transitioning from wing to center position. Mark Henry
December 2022 – Gauthier has been having a remarkable first NCAA season with Boston College, putting on an elite offensive showing, currently leading the team in points with 16. In November, he was named NCAA East’s “Rookie of the Month” with eight points and five goals in seven games during the month, and his five goals ranked second in the NCAA among all freshmen. Cutter has also made team USA for the 2023 World Juniors. Clare McManus
July 2022 – Gauthier has been selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. Nick Richard
June 2022 – Gauthier spent some time playing down the middle but was used mostly as a winger with the NTDP during his draft year. NHL teams, however, reportedly view him as a center at the pro level and Gauthier also stated at the NHL Scouting Combine that Boston College plans to play him as a center when he begins his collegiate career next fall. His draft stock was already rising in the latter part of the season and the fact that NHL teams believe he can play center will only increase it further. Nick Richard
May 2022 – After netting 20 goals in 44 games with the U17 squad a year ago, Gauthier exploded for 34 goals in 54 games with the NTDP’s U18 team in 2021-22 – second-most on the team behind Rutger McGroarty. He would go on to add another three goals and six assists through six games at the U18 World Championships, earning a silver medal with Team USA. Perhaps more impressive than the goal totals themselves is the variety of ways in which Gauthier was able to find the back of the net throughout the season. He is opportunistic around the net, positioning himself well for rebound chances or backdoor passes. He can beat defenders with strong power moves to the net and he is a dangerous one-touch scorer who can pounce on loose pucks in the slot or hammer one-timers from the faceoff circle. Gauthier was always considered a fairly safe pick due to his projectable frame and well-rounded game but he took his offense to another level this year and could end up being selected in the top-10 of the 2022 NHL Draft as a result. Nick Richard
December 2021 – Gauthier is having a solid season and though he hasn’t produced at quite the same rate as some of his NTDP teammates, I think there are some pro-level traits to his offensive game.
Gauthier is a skilled, active player in the offensive zone who has the ability to beat goaltenders with his powerful, accurate shot. Outside of his shot, he doesn’t necessarily have any standout skills but he does a lot of things to help drive offense for his team. Gauthier can make plays off the wall, plays a solid physical game, and is an efficient distributor who utilizes his teammates effectively. His skating is good, not great, but he makes smart reads and maintains strong positioning all over the ice to help drive possession. Gauthier may not have the pure offensive upside that others in this class do but his well-rounded game and high-end shot make him a pretty safe bet as a top-nine NHL forward. Nick Richard
