Fantasy Summary

A strong possession, two-way forward who shoots and hits, but points might not be his strong suit at the NHL level.

September 2023 – The 2021 third-round pick w ill not be available for the start of training camp after suffering what appeared to be a leg injury during the Traverse City Prospects Tournament. The 21-year-old winger impressed in a six game stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL last season registering three goals and three assists. The Red Wings are expecting big things from the Jackson, Michigan native as it appears he will return to Grand Rapids for the upcoming season, but do not be surprised if he sees a few games in Detroit. He is most definitely worth a roster stash in all dynasty league formats as he could emerge as a multi-category stud. Evan Sabourin

May 2023 – The 21-year-old prospect registered two assists in Team USA’s 4-3 overtime win over Sweden at the World Championships, including a beautiful setup to teammate Dylan Samberg for the game winner. He now has four points in seven games and has been a real force for the undefeated men’s team. Mazur has a real shot to make his NHL debut this upcoming season and is worth a stash on deeper rosters. Team USA advanced to the quarterfinals and will square off against Czechia on Thursday.  Evan Sabourin

May 2023 – The 21-year-old prospect scored the winning goal as the U.S. beat Austria 4-1 in World Championship pool play in Finland. He has now recorded two points (goal, assist) in two games for Team USA. Wings Head Coach Derek Lalonde is a part of Team USA’s staff so he is getting an up close and personal look at the former Denver product ahead of training camp. “Great goal,” Lalonde said from Finland, “been excited from what I’ve seen from Carter so far. Obviously a young player. One thing I really like about him is he is a straight line player. He plays through checks, plays through bodies, which is sometimes something you have to teach young kids when they come to our level.” The third round draft choice from the 2021 draft did not look out of place with a six game stint in Grand Rapids this past season, appearing in six games, recording three goals and three assists. Expect the forward to push for a bottom six role this year with the Red Wings, but will most likely start the season with the Griffins and could be a mid-to-late season call up. Evan Sabourin

June 2022 – Mazur had a pretty fantastic transition from the USHL to the NCAA. His University of Denver Pioneers took home the championship and he was a big part of it as a Freshman. He had the 4th most ice time for forwards on the team and was 2nd in points per game behind only senior Cole Guttman. Despite this strong production, I’m not sure how well it will translate to the NHL. He was on a dominant and offensively gifted NCAA team that finished 2nd in goals behind only Minnesota State so his point totals may be inflated. Mazur’s ability to translate this offense to the professional ranks will be the next step and I remain skeptical. In leagues that value hits, on the other hand, he will be valuable as he registered nearly two hits per game in under 17 minutes of ice time. Victor Nuño
