June 2026 – Montgomery signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators in April 2026. His deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $1.07M and runs through the 2028-29 season. Chris Babos

March 2026 – Montgomery had an inconsistent season at Wisconsin in his freshman year. Nine goals and 17 points in 34 games is interesting production for a freshman, but a 17-game goalless stretch in the middle of the season took the shine off an otherwise promising start. The penalty minutes – he leads the Badgers in major penalties – may reflect some frustration during that drought rather than a deliberate physical identity. With plenty of college runway ahead, the consistency issues have time to be ironed out, and if you’re Ottawa, you would like to see him take a more important role on the team than the middle six minutes he’s currently getting. February 2025 – Blake Montgomery is rapidly climbing the Ottawa Senators’ prospect rankings this season. Montgomery has a powerful stride, and for his 6-4, 195-pound frame, he can reach top speed quickly, putting opposing defensemen on their heels. He has a heavy shot with a quick release. Montgomery plays a north-south game but can also go east to west with surprisingly silky hands for a big man. After moving to the London Knights from the Lincoln Stars in the USHL this season, Montgomery started slowly, transitioning to the OHL. Since the end of November, Montgomery has found his stride and is taking advantage of a top-six role for the Knights. In his last 24 games, Montgomery has 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points, producing 1.5 points per game in that stretch. Until January 24th, the Bowie, Maryland native had 24 points during a 14-game streak. Montgomery is committed to playing at the University of Wisconsin for the 2025-26 season.
