August 2024 – Meehan became an unrestricted free agent after not being offered a contract by the Los Angeles Kings on August 15, 2024, the NHL exclusive signing rights deadline. Mark Henry

June 2023 – Meehan recorded a career best 17 points in 34 games with UMass-Lowell in 2022-23 and has committed to returning for his senior year. Meehan has shown improvements in his defensive game and an ability to use his quick first step to transition the puck efficiently through the neutral zone. He will either look to turn pro after 2023-24 or after his fifth year of eligibility. Once he makes the jump, it would not be a surprise to see him spend time with Greenville of the ECHL before working his way into a full-time role with the Reign. Sean Crocker

June 2022 – Trading up to grab Meehan in round five off the 2020 NHL Draft, the Kings rushed to grab the fleet-footed defenceman while he was still on the board, and it looks like that gamble paid off. Meehan came out of his sophomore season as a more complete player than when he entered the UMass-Lowell program. An offensive-minded defenceman, Meehan quietly put up 14 points through 32 games and led the way on the backend for the Riverhawks. A great first step and exceptional acceleration allows Meehan to quickly jump into the play and create opportunities off the rush. When his team is established in the offensive zone, he uses his strong skating ability to break loose from defending players, usually opening a lane for a pass or a shot where he will be decisive in his selection. Meehan will return to the Riverhawks for his junior season where he is expected to continue his upward trajectory and could become a complementary player for the Kings down the line if he can continue to improve his three-zone game. Sean Crocker

July 2020 – The Los Angeles Kings traded up to snag defenseman Ben Meehan in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Meehan played last season in the USHL with Cedar Rapids accumulating 18 points in 25 games played. His strengths include his offensive play and poise with the puck. He will look to bounce back after being injured most of last season and will join University of Massachusetts-Lowell this season where he will continue to develop. Julian Mongillo
