Timofei Obvintsev

March 2026 – Timofei is in his first professional season after making the jump from the MHL to Gornyak-UGMK of the VHL, Russia’s second-tier pro league. Through six games, he has a 2.86 GAA and .899 save percentage. Solid number for the teenager but nothing that points to an imminent move to North America. He plays a hybrid, instinctual style and has drawn praise for his blocker hand speed, but scouting information beyond that is limited. Artur Akhtyamov was already drawing KHL interest at the same age and needed several more strong VHL seasons before earning his move to Toronto. Vyacheslav Peksa’s path was shorter, but it came at a time when organizational blockers were clearing. What Toronto does with Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll after tough years from both will shape how the depth chart shifts and where Obvintsev fits long-term. For now, he needs to establish himself as a reliable VHL starter before any of that becomes relevant. Too early and too uncertain to roster in dynasty leagues. Ryan Downey

June 2025 – The Toronto Maple Leafs’ fifth-round pick (157th overall) in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft played in the MHL for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva during the 2024-25 season, the junior team connected to CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League. He played in 11 games for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva and had a 6-4-0 with one shutout, a .903 SV%, and a 2.78 GAA. He ended up losing his starting job to 2025 draft-eligible prospect Pyotr Andreyanov.
