Fantasy Summary

Pitlick works hard enough to make up for his diminutive frame. He is a smooth skater who has hands that match his feet. He has middle-six upside but remains a long term project at this time.

September 2024 – The Montreal Canadiens opted not to sign Rhett Pitlick to an entry-level contract, allowing his rights to expire. Aaron Itovitch

May 2022 – After the dismissal of Marc Bergevin, the Canadiens decided to collect Pitlicks like they were stamps. With the acquisitions of Rem and Tyler, the Habs’ OG Pitlick, Rhett, became the forgotten family member in the organization. The feisty undersized winger followed up a disappointing final USHL season production-wise with a solid freshman campaign for the University of Minnesota, with 5 goals and 18 points in 30 games. Far more importantly, Pitlick’s style of play transitioned smoothly to the next level. His game predicated on intensity, speed, and intelligence proved effective against NCAA competition.  While multiple teammates participated in the Olympics, Pitlick made the most of the increased ice time and demonstrated that he is an effective top-6 NCAA player. Pitlick has the benefit of a relatively high floor. If his development continues well, his skill set could easily slot into an intense fourth-line NHL role. He has third-line upside if he can continue developing his skills and becoming more predictive than reactive in the offensive zone. Sebastian High

December 2019 – Pitlick is committed to the University of Minnesota next season but is spending his time in the USHL this season. Recently traded to the Muskegon Lumberjacks, he will be getting a better opportunity with his new club. He plays a game predicated on speed and skill which is what attracted the Canadiens at the draft. He does an excellent job of finding his outlets and completing clean passes. He thrives on putting pressure on defenders as he enters the offensive zone with his speed, backing them off and then cutting to the middle of the ice. He is a bit of a long-term prospect who is headed to the NCAA next year where he should be able to get bigger and stronger. Likely three years away at a minimum, Pitlick is a player to monitor.
