Fantasy Summary

An athletic goaltender with size that is developing at a steady rate.

Observations

July 2026 – Poirier settled the Texas crease question emphatically. He carried a true starter’s workload with 52 appearances, going 27-19-6 with a 2.61 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage, and two shutouts, then started all five playoff games in the first-round loss. On a Texas team whose offense ranked near the bottom of the league for long stretches, that stat line did a lot of heavy lifting, and his season-long consistency is the reason the club made the postseason at all. The 2020 sixth-rounder’s game matured in visible ways this year, quieter movement, better rebound direction into the corners, and fewer of the scrambly sequences that marked his earlier AHL seasons. At 24 he now sits as the organization’s clear third goalie behind Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith, and the internal competition thinned with Ben Kraws leaving as a free agent. His fantasy relevance is one injury away rather than theoretical, which is more than most AHL goalies can claim. The item to watch is September: a strong NHL camp makes him the first recall, and any DeSmith stumble opens the backup conversation in Dallas. Andrew Epps

March 2026
– Dallas kept Poirier in the fold by signing him to a two-year, two-way contract on June 16, 2025, after a strong 2024-25 with Texas, and this season has been less about a pure breakout than proving he can handle starter-level AHL volume over a longer stretch. Through March 18, he sits at 17-15-4 with a 2.70 GAA and .907 save percentage for Texas, then briefly earned an NHL recall on Feb. 24 before being loaned back the next day, which says plenty about how the organization still values him as usable depth. His best run came in January when he was named AHL Player of the Week following two standout performances: 29 saves against Grand Rapids and 30 stops against Chicago. The important update is that Poirier still looks like a goalie Dallas trusts to carry meaningful minutes and answer emergency NHL needs, but the next step is turning these hot stretches into a steadier full-season case rather than living in waves. June 2025  – The Dallas Stars signed Poirier to a two-year, two-way contract on June 17, 2025. His contract begins in the 2025-26 season and runs through the 2026-27 season. The 23-year-old has spent his entire professional career in the Dallas Stars organization but has yet to make an NHL start. Poirier is an organizational depth goaltender in the minors and has no path to playing time in the NHL, as the Dallas Stars are set with Jake Oettinger in net, whose new eight-year contract signed on October 17, 2024, kicks in starting in 2025-26 and backup netminder Casey DeSmith is entering year two of a three-year contract that he signed on July 1. 2024.

In 31 games, Poirier had a 17-11-2 record with a .908 SV% and 2.50 GAA, including three shutouts with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League during the 2025-26 regular season. Mark Henry

October 2020 – The Dallas Stars drafted Poirier in the sixth round (185th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Mark Henry
