July 2024 – Two seasons ago, Laferriere took a significant step in the right direction, but the same cannot be said for last season. Despite playing 18 more games, he scored one point less, with 25 points compared to 26. Additionally, his goals-for percentage when on the ice dropped from an unsustainable 71% to a more modest but still disappointing 48%. While Laferriere could surprise at camp and stick with the Blues, it is more likely that we will see him in Springfield again this season. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte
June 2023 – As a result of his progress last season, Laferriere earned a one-year contract extension for this upcoming season. In less game than his previous one, Laferriere had more goals, points, and shots on goal. His point production progressed from 0.16 points per game to a respectful 0.52. If he can maintain a comparable development this season, his presence with the Blues might come sooner than expected. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte
May 2022 – Mathias Laferrière had a rocky rookie season at the professional level. After steadily increasing his production over his Major-Junior career from 0.61 Pts/GP in his draft year to 1.3 in his last season. He spent the majority of the year playing in the AHL for the Springfield Thunderbirds where he amassed 9 points over 56 games. He’s also been a healthy scratch throughout the Thunderbirds playoff run as of May 24th, 2022. His entry-level deal is up at the end of next season, he’ll need to make strides to guarantee he is re-signed. Gordon Munro
September 2019 – After recording an assist in his first and only preseason appearance Laferriere was returned to Cape Breton where he will be in good position to push for over a point per game in his third full season in the QMJHL. Laferriere has a nagging upper-body injury that will keep him out of the Eagles’ lineup this weekend. Sam Stern
April 2019 – Laferriere is capping off an exception sophomore season in the QMJHL with an even better postseason. The winger recorded 28-26-74 good enough to finish second in scoring on the Cape Breton Eagles during the regular season, but he’s stepping up when it matters most. He recorded 2-5-7 in the Screaming Eagle’s first-round triumph over the Charlottetown Islanders. Two of those points were primary assists in the series-clinching Game 5 last week. Sam Stern
