Keane has a lot of question marks surrounding his file. He has a moderate ceiling as a potential 4th or 5th two-way defender, but could also top out at the same place on an AHL lineup.

March 2021 – Keane has gotten off to a good start for the Wolves. He currently sits third on the team in assists and second on the team in points by a defenceman. He has eight assists and is one of three players to play in all 13 games for Chicago this year. – Austin Broad
February 2020 – Keane was traded to the Hurricanes in exchange for Julien Gauthier. The move likely bumps up Keane’s arrival time by getting him out of a logjammed system in Manhattan. It’s possible that he gets a cup of coffee in the NHL before season-end, and could be a full-time NHL player by this time next year. Brayden Olafson
January 2020 – Joey Keane has been selected to represent the Hartford Wolfpack at the AHL All-Star Game in his first year in the league. As a rookie in the AHL, Keane has been more productive than he ever was in major junior. His immediate success with the organization is ahead of schedule and may give the Rangers some flexibility to move a player such as Brendan Smith before his contract expires. If his play is consistent through the next month, he can certainly expect to see NHL ice prior to the end of 2020. Brayden Olafson
March 2019 – The Ranger’s signed Keane to an entry-level-contract at the beginning of March. Keane, who was traded to the London Knights mid-season, will turn 20 in the summer, making him eligible to play pro hockey next fall. The way that the Ranger’s have chosen to develop some of their CHL prospects, there is a chance that Keane spends some time in the ECHL next year. Until then, the first seeded Knights will kick off the OHL playoffs in a series with the Windsor Spitfires. An early exit will spell the end to Keane’s season as the Hartford Wolfpack are all but mathematically eliminated from the AHL playoffs. Brayden Olafson
December 2018 – In his first campaign as an official NHL prospect, Keane has been off to a relatively steady start with the OHL’s Barrie Colts. In recognition of his early successes, USA Hockey, John Hastings, and John Vanbiesbrouck have named the Illinois native to the World Juniors preliminary roster. Keane is one of ten defensemen and twenty-nine total players who will attend the final selection camp in Everett in hopes of being named to the roster that will represent the red, white and blue in Vancouver. June 2018 – The fourth defender selected by the Rangers spent his draft year as an assistant captain with the OHL’s Barrie Colts. A two-way style of defender, who does most things good but not many things great. His best attribute is probably his hockey sense which may lead the Ranger’s to believe his trajectory is more positive than some believe. Brayden Olafson
