January 2025 – Flying a bit under the radar in Vancouver’s system, Gabrielson has had a terrific season with Nybro in HockeyAllsvenskan. He’s played in 33 games and registered an impressive 20 points. Gabrielson also plays on Nybro’s power play, and 11 of his points have come with the man advantage. Despite his large size, Gabrielson moves well and has gotten disruptive in the defensive zone. He is featured in almost every situation and has become one of Nybro’s most reliable blueliners. The unfortunate part for Vancouver is that Gabrielson signed a two-year extension with Nybro in November, meaning they’ll have to wait to see him in North America if he even decides to come over. December 2023 – It has been a good season so far for Gabrielson. The young defenseman has already produced more points than last season, with seven compared to six, despite playing 15 fewer games (20 games this season). To boost his chances of playing one day in the NHL, Gabrielson will have soon to come to North America so that the Canucks can see him play more. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte
May 2022 – Gabrielson, known for his offensive ability on the backend, struggled during his adjustment to the higher ranks. Following decent numbers at the J20 and HockeyEttan levels, respectively, the 19-year-old took the jump to the Allsvenskan league in 2022. He posted just three points over his 40-game campaign and struggled to find consistent minutes for Västerviks IK. Dealing with shoulder issues, reports indicate that he has undergone surgery and will be out for at least six months, missing the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign. When healthy, the hope is that he undertakes a larger role and can transition his game at this level, before taking his development further. Check back next season. Dave Hall
August 2021 – Gabrielson is an offensive-minded defender, who brings an uncanny ability to run a powerplay a create opportunity. He thrives at putting himself in good positions and loves to shoot the puck when he has the chance. At 172-pounds, he will need to fill out his frame in order to get himself into the mix more often, especially in the defensive end. Otherwise, brings top-four upside down the road. Look for him to make the jump to the Allsvenskan League, where he is slated to suit up Vasterviks IK as a rookie defender. Dave Hall
