Filip Larsson

December 2020 – The Red Wings signed Larsson to an entry level contract following a strong season at the University of Denver where he finished with a 0.932 save percentage in 22 games. He put up decent numbers at the ECHL level in his first professional season but struggled mightily in limited action for Grand Rapids in the AHL. With North American professional hockey on hold this fall, Larsson was loaned to Almtuna of the Allsvenskan and has an 0.891 save percentage in just four appearances. It is expected that Larsson will return to Detroit for training camp and he will push for a larger role in the AHL when their season finally begins. Nick Richard

April 2019 – Larsson has been outstanding this year as a freshman for the University of Denver, sporting a 1.87 GAA and 0.935 save percentage in 21 games played. Larsson also posted back-to-back shutouts in qualifying his team for the NCAA 2019 Frozen Four tournament this month. The young goalie is still a few years away from the NHL but his development curve continues to point towards a potential starter. Mark Hillier

June 2018 – A potential late round steal, Larsson had an historical campaign for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL last season. His GAA of 1.65 and save percentage of .941 were best in the league and enough to earn him USHL goaltender of the year. In addition, Larsson’s save percentage was the best recorded by a goalie in USHL history. Red Wings goaltending development coach Brian Mahoney has compared Larsson’s style to Henrik Lundqvist. He is a good blocking goalie who covers the net well, controls rebounds and has a calm demeanor. Larsson will follow the path of Wings prospect goalie Keith Petruzzelli and continue his development by playing college hockey this year. He has committed himself to the University of Denver Pioneers for this season. Mark Hillier
