June 2023 – Zary had his best AHL season as an impactful player for the Wranglers. He was second on the team in points and goals, which was a huge outburst after last year’s disappointing season. Zary showed off his great playmaking ability this year and was consistently able to locate teammates in prime scoring positions. Most importantly, he looked more comfortable, suggesting that he is adjusting well to the AHL’s professional-level pace. Zary will need to keep his weight up and make sure he stays in good shape for the Flames development camp, where he should stand out compared to the new rookies. Carson Klein
February 2023 – Zary has taken another step this season as a real force in the AHL. After disappointing last year, Zary has done a real good job at finding his game at the pro level in the AHL. Zary has been a very impressive story this year for the Calgary Wranglers and has really proved why he was drafted in the first round back in 2020. You can tell he is playing with more confidence on the ice and is finding his way as one of the best players in the league this year. He currently is 19th in the league in points and has come a long since last year when he was 291st in the league with 25 points after returning slowly from an ankle fracture. Carson Klein

April 2022 – Zary scored a pair of goals in the first week. While he has not had the hype-driving type of season that Pelletier or Dustin Wolf have had, he has bounced back from some injury troubles (ankle fractur) and is finding some consistency in his overall game. He currently sits with 11 goals, 12 assists and 23 points in 46 games played. If he can just stay healthy, that will be necessary for him to take the next step. He is still one of the upper echelon prospects within the Flames organization. Chris Fekete

May 2021 – It was a tough month for Connor, as he found himself on the injured list due to a late check from Prince George Cougars forward Jonny Hooker. Zary had passed the puck over and was in a vulnerable position when Hooker’s left shoulder appeared to connect with Connor’s head. He wobbled closer to the Blazers’ bench before going down again while clutching his head. This would end his season as he didn’t play in the final seven games. He finishes the season with 24 points in 15 games. A massive impact for the Blazers even though he didn’t play in the final games. I look forward to seeing Connor with the Heat next season. April 2021 – “We takin over one city at a time”…. Connor definitely took over the month of April in Kamloops as he put up 20 points (five Goals and 15 Assists) in 13 games. He once again showed off his stellar playmaking as he was making crisp passes back and forth across the rink. His teammates sure appreciated it and it surely ended up helping the Blazers in the end. He makes things look super easy out there as his skating and passing have stayed super crisp throughout the last couple of months. His defensive play took a little downfall but still managed to keep it at that level where we’re used to seeing it. He was much more impressive in the month of April compared to March. I look forward to seeing how he finishes off the 2021 WHL season. Taranjot Vining

March 2021 – In the month of March, Connor helped the Stockton Heat (more so the Calgary Heat for the 2021 AHL season) on the backend by scoring his first three professional hockey goals and putting up five points in five games. He would later be assigned back to the Kamloops Blazers for his final season in the Dub. Captain Connor would draw into his first two games of the shortened WHL season in March and would put up four points. He had an instant impact at both ends of the ice in Stockton and Kamloops. Most noticeably his play on the defensive side of things improved a lot from when we last saw him during the 19-20 season. He definitely improved his backchecking and it was evident in the few games he played with the Heat and the two games with the Blazers so far. All in all, not too shabby of a month from the Flames 2020 1st Round Pick. Taranjot Vining

January 2021 – Zary showed himself fairly well at the WJC for Canada as he was bounced around multiple lines. Since he is a fall birthday, this was sadly his last kick at the can for this tournament. Since the WHL is still in a waiting period, Zary has been assigned to the AHL for the time being. Joel Henderson
October 2020 – Zary was drafted 24th overall by the Flames. Zary could push for an NHL job after another year in the WHL. Jokke Nevalainen
August 2019 – Only six days away from being eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft, Zary will be knocked for being one of the older players in his draft class. He displays a game that is reminiscent of a player that is older than his peers as well. He is growing as a defensive player, improving on his positioning throughout last season. Zary stays engaged in the play and does not get lost in the shuffle as some younger players do. He does an excellent job of finding space and taking advantage when he does. The young Kamloops Blazers center possesses a good shot equally good playmaking ability. He does his best work in close to the net with terrific hands and the ability to elevate the puck in tight. As one of the oldest players in this class, he should produce at a rate well above many of his peers. Expect a big season from the WHL forward. Pat Quinn
