August 2017- Philippe Myers has put on a lean 10 pounds over the summer which is pleasing to see as he has the frame for it, standing at six-foot-five. It should make for a training camp where he is not set up to fail like he was last year having attended camp relatively soon after hip surgery. Edric  Joseph

February 2017 – Injuries notwithstanding, Philippe Myers has been a terrific find for the Philadelphia Flyers. Myers has been a menace on both ends of the ice this year filling the statsheet with a plus-nine, 19 points and 30 minutes in the sin bin so far. He also made an impact as a depth defenseman for Team Canada at the World Juniors and has shown little reason to doubt that he can do the same for the Flyers in good time. Edric Joseph

June 2016 –The Philadelphia Flyers have arguably the top defensive prospects in the NHL and the free agent addition of Myers adds to their embarrassment of riches. Myers passed through two NHL drafts and was invited to the Philadelphia rookie camp in 2015. Flyers brass were impressed and knew what they had in Myers and quickly signed him to his ELC before returning him to junior where he had a breakout season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies scoring 45 points with a league leading plus -52 rating. Myers was on display at the Memorial Cup where he was a first power play mainstay and teammates looked to find him in Ovechkins spot at the top of the faceoff circle looking for his deadly one-timer. Myers has size and strength to play the physical game at the pro level and has above average skating ability for large defencemen. Myers reads the play well both defensively and offensively and demonstrates excellent gap control as well as sound decisions in transitional offensive breakout passes and reads. He has the puck control skills to carry the puck up the ice, and the speed to recover quickly if there is a turnover. At 19 years old, he has one more year of junior eligibility before he will turn pro, likely spending at least one season in the AHL. He has some formidable competition he will compete with to earn an NHL job on the Philadelphia blueline with Ivan Provorov, Shane Gostisbehere, and Travis Sanheim, but if he continues to develop at his current rate it will be impossible to keep him out of the NHL for long.
