Observations:

April 2018 — What a rookie year in the AHL it has been for the Michigan State product. Appleton leads the Moose with 61 points in 71 games this season. Appleton is an extremely versatile player and possesses the shot, speed and vision necessary to succeed at the NHL level. A former 6th-round pick in 2015, the Jets may have found themselves a “diamond in the rough” moving forward. Jamie Zadow

September 2017 - It was a bit of a surprise to see Appleton turn pro this year after being named captain ahead of his junior year at Michigan State. He has plenty of offensive upside and led the Spartans in goals, assists and points last year. At 21, he still has time to develop at the pro level and will likely make the most of his time with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL this season. Jamie Zadow

August 2017 – Appleton is a smooth-skating center that can play in all situations – including the power play and penalty kill – and has played all three forward positions over the past two years at Michigan State. As a sophomore last season, he led the Spartans in scoring with 12 goals and 31 assists in 35 games. That was enough for the Jets organization as they signed Appleton to a three-year entry level contract this summer and he will debut in the AHL this fall with the Manitoba Moose. The 21-year-old possesses great vision when quarterbacking the power play and should find himself contributing on the man advantage with the Moose this season. Jamie Zadow

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Plays with a fast pace and has great vision on the ice to find his teammates with a crisp pass. A bit of a late bloomer, but will get his first taste of pro hockey this year and could make an impact soon enough at the NHL level.
