Fantasy Summary
Rapidly ascending physical center with instinctive scoring touch. With increased skating speed he may do some impressive NHL damage.

July 2022 – Stenlund has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Winnipeg Jets. He continues to act as a strong fringe pivot, and one of the club’s top call-up options for the 2022-23 campaign. Dave Hall
March 2021 – Stenlund is carving out a role for himself as a quality fourth liner who can play on the third when necessary. His pace of play is still slow (relative to the pace of the NHL) but he intelligently uses his size and scoring touch to be a contributing player. There is still reason to believe he can play himself up the lineup into a more contributing role where he is given the opportunity to produce beyond eight points in 20 games. Stenlund is on the verge of graduating waiver eligibility with 56 games played in the NHL and would likely have more games if he was not relegated to the taxi squad. Sam McGilligan
April 2020 – After a mid-season call-up, Stenlund enjoyed a 33 game taste with the Blue Jackets this season. With only 10 points (six goals and four assists) on the year, it was not the most standout performance, statistically speaking. However, the 23-year Swede filled a nice void as a very serviceable middle-six forward and was considered the team’s top performer in regards to promoted players. When the Jackets are healthy, he likely slides down as bottom-six center, which does not bode well for fantasy owners. However, with a strong two-way game, he could provide you with some lowkey peripherals for some deep leagues. Dave Hall
December 2019 – The 23-year-old Swede is the latest Monster to receive a promotion to the big club after an impressive month in the American League. Since mid-November the sophomore center has racked up five goals and six assists, riding a casual 10-game point-streak. The Jacket’s will be getting a big body with underrated skating abilities. He’s got a sneaky shot that can find the net from anywhere and plays the perimeters well. CBJ tends to put their line-combinations through a blender to shuffle things around so don’t be surprised if he gets a look with the likes of an Atkinson or a Bjorkstrand at some point. Dave Hall
October 2019 – After a respectable rookie season last year with the Cleveland Monsters (15g-10a-25pts), Stenlund has come out the gate with two assists. Both of which came in the team’s second game of the year. Given his versatile game, the 23-year-old looks to have found a home on the squad’s top line and powerplay unit. Look for him to be knocking on the door of the big club should they suffer any injury woes up the middle. In the meantime, the Swedish center will be racking up minutes down in the AHL as he continues to develop. Dave Hall
June 2019 – In his first full season in North America, the 22-year-old scored 15 goals in 59 games. He made his NHL debut in January which turned out to be a scoreless four-game
stint. The 2015 second-round-pick should begin next season in the AHL but could be a
steady call-up for the Blue Jackets. Frank Pellegrini
January 2019 – The Blue Jackets have assigned Stenlund to Cleveland of the AHL. He played in the first four games of his NHL career but was held scoreless. He has the offensive upside to warrant future call-ups. It is unlikely that we have seen the last of him in the NHL. Frank Pellegrini
January 2019 – Stenlund was called up by the Blue Jackets and made his NHL debut against the Washington Capitals. He was held scoreless but saw an impressive twelve minutes of ice time. He was great in the faceoff circle as well by winning three of four draws. Frank Pellegrini
November 2018 – Stenlund was impressive in the 2018 Traverse City Tournament. In four games, he posted five goals, two assists and a tournament leading plus six rating. Unfortunately it was not enough to earn a spot with the Blue Jackets out of training camp. Instead, Stenlund will start the year with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL where he will get acclimated to the North American style of play. His ceiling is that of a second-line center and his floor is that of a bottom-six center. Frank Pellegrini
July 2018 – After being slowed by injuries early last year, Stenlund finished strong with 16 points in 24 games for HV71 of the SHL. On March 16th, Stenlund was assigned to the Blue Jacket’s AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, where he notched two assists in seven games with six shots on goal. The big 21-year-old Swede will take time to adapt his game to fit the smaller North American rinks. Hopefully he can continue to develop his scoring touch in order to have any fantasy relevancy. Don’t expect Stenlund to be more than an emergency call-up for the Jackets this coming schedule. Jesse Sherman
December 2017 – After recovering from his early campaign injuries, Stenlund is starting to find the physical game he displayed toward the end of last year. We’d expect an increase over his three-goal, three-assist totals through 19 games shortly. The key for both Stenlund and HV71, last year’s champs sitting now at 11-12-3-1, is to maintain consistency. October 2017 – Eight SHL contests into the year, Stenlund has missed all but one of HV71’s games due to injury and has yet to register a point. He is reportedly close to returning and recently re-joined the team’s practice sessions. The club, featuring additional top NHL prospects Erik Brännström and Linus Söderström currently occupies fourth place in the 14-team league with a 4-3-1-0 record. Kevin Wickersham
July 2017 – Stenlund is a rising factor in the Jackets’ pivot plans. Initially considered a second round reach by many, the physical and cerebral Swedish playmaker upped his game significantly in 2016-17 totaling 13 goals and seven assists in 48 SHL contests with H71, adding ten points (four goals, six assists) in their title-winning 16-game postseason run. Stenlund excelled on the HV71 J20 SuperElit squad the previous campaign, with 24 points in 17 games, but couldn’t find his scoring touch in limited ice time against more experienced SHL completion with just two points in 43 games. His large frame compliments a no-nonsense approach that generates abundant quality, close-range scoring chances for himself and linemates. A highly skilled puckhandler that eschews the fancy stuff. Stenlund could stand to increase his acceleration as speedier NHL play potentially approaches, but his combination of grit and offensive skill may take the 20-year-old far. Kevin Wickersham
