Observations:

February 2017 – Coming off his first professional season where he played 49 games for the Charlotte Checkers, it was expected that Karlsson would take a step forward in his sophomore campaign. The pass-first forward is yet to score his first goal in the 2016-17 season, but has posted seven assists in 34 games after getting off to a slow start. He has been buried in the team's bottom-six all season, and has yet to be utilized on the teams power play. At just 22, and with under two years of time playing hockey in North America, this is to be expected.  Kevin LeBlanc

January 2014- Erik Karlsson was one of 13 forwards named to Team Sweden's final roster for the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Karlsson played in the gold medal game for Sweden in his home country, unfortunately they came up short, losing in overtime to Finland in a tight game. Karlsson displayed some of his playmaking ability sending three passes for three assists. He finished with four shots on goal in seven games. Andrew Ward

December 2013- Erik Karlsson has the speed and skill to become a top six forward in the NHL. He is an elusive skater and has above average puck handling. Karlsson is a great passer and has excellent vision and hockey sense. Karlsson can see a play developing and adjust accordingly making his moves on the ice look instinctive and deliberate. Karlsson isn’t afraid to be physical either; he will take the body when he sees a hit, and take a hit to make a play. Karlsson has a fairly complete all-around game and can play both wings and center, making him extremely useful and versatile; he is defensively sound and can put the puck in the net when the opportunity presents itself.  Andrew Ward
