March 2020 – After being acquired by Anaheim, the team suffered injuries to a few of their top defensemen and Djoos was playing top pair minutes and looked comfortable in that role. In nine games with the Ducks, he averaged 21:20 of ice time, with 2:38 on the powerplay and 1:30 on the penalty kill. His poise at the blue line on the powerplay is something the Ducks were lacking all season and he has really fit in with the youth movement. Look for him to take a full time roll next season after his great performance to close out this year. Lucas Main

February 2020 – Djoos has been traded from Washington to Anaheim.  Jokke Nevalainen

December 2019 – Djoos should not be in the AHL. Full stop. The Capitals sent him down and no one claimed him. NHL GMs I tell ya. He has 13 points in 19 AHL games and honestly he is just toying with the league. The Capitals have called him up a few times and he never looks out of place. Can some GM please rescue him, he is a great option for the 2PP and four to six defensemen role. Pat Quinn

May 2018 – After being scratched in the first two games of the playoffs because he is a rookie and his head coach is Barry Trotz, Djoos was inserted into the line up and has not looked back. His patience and poise with the puck makes him look as though he has played in the NHL playoffs for years. He still looks to pass instead of shoot too often, but if he was given more offense time (and more time away from Brooks Orpik) his numbers would increase. He could be a sneaky add in 2018-19 if Carlson moves on to a new NHL team. Pat Quinn

January 2018 – After starting slow in his acclimation of the NHL game Djoos has turned into a steady top five defense option for the Capitals. He is still playing a sheltered role but more recently he has been a mainstay on the second pairing. The only issue with Djoos’ game is his defensive coverage but as he grows in the NHL that will be gone sooner than later. Trotz and the coaching staff are keeping his pinches tamed s he has been hesitant to include himself in a lot of the play, but he is beginning to pick his spots more frequently. If he gets power play time he will score more but in the meantime expect his scoring totals low, but he is a future top four defense mainstay. Pat Quinn

February 2017 – Djoos is surprisingly sitting tied for sixth overall in points for AHL defensemen and fifth on the Bears in overall scoring with 31, as he is having a breakout year in the AHL. With a major injury to Bowey, and missed time for Ness, Djoos has taken over the top offensive role for the Bears and is excelling in the role. Minus the fact that he still rarely shoots, as he prefers to play set up man, seen by his 50 shots on goal in 41 games, just slightly over one shot per game. To be consistent and dangerous in the NHL Djoos has to up his shot total but this current season is very impressive. Pat Quinn

December 2016 – 20 games into the season Djoos has matched his assist total from the previous season, and is only four points off from last years total in 42 fewer games leading the Bears in points on defense. He is seeing #1 powerplay time as eights of his 18 points have been on the powerplay as the Bears play him to his strength. Djoos really needs to start shooting more as he only has just over one shot per game and that is including three games where he had 12 shots, over half of his total shots on the season. His passing and playmaking skills are top notch but to be dangerous in the NHL he will need to shoot more. Pat Quinn

October 2016 – Djoos had a rather impressive few exhibition games that he played for the Capitals, but was ultimately sent down to Hershey as the back end in Washington is very crowded. He is still rather small in weight but did not look it at all when competing for the puck in his own end. With the puck he moved it extremely well on the back end and played some minutes on the powerplay. Expect him to play full time in the AHL this year as he still has a couple seasons to go before making the NHL, but he has made some pretty big strides. Pat Quinn

June 2016 – Djoos, the former seventh-round pick, had an impressive first season in North America, although he played better in the real world over the production you may expect in the fantasy world. As the season wore on Djoos became more comfortable with the AHL style and was trusted more 5 on 5. He did finish the regualr season for Hershey with 22 points in 62 games, and currently in the playoffs, with Hershey down 3-0 to Lake Eerie, has nine points in 20 games. Djoos still needs to bulk up if he wants to play in the NHL, especially at 6 feet as he is quite lanky for his size. Expect him to spend more time in the AHL for the next couple seasons. Pat Quinn

Nov 2015 – Djoos currently has three points in four games for the Hershey Bears as he is eased in to the line-up and North American style of play. Head coach Troy Mann’s plan is to have Djoos play one or two of the three day in a row weekend games to get him acclaimed to AHL play. Djoos has been gaining confidence in each game he plays and has been developing chemistry on the powerplay with the Bears’ forwards. The coach described him as a cerebral player, who does not panic, and makes an excellent first pass. Pat Quinn

Sept 2015 – Djoos has been sent down to the AHL to attend Hershey Bears camp where he will be playing on North American ice. It will also give him a chance to figure out how to use his smaller size against bigger opponents, and he will likely be quarterbacking the Bears powerplay. Pat Quinn

Sept 2015 – Djoos was a stand out among rookies for the Capitals at the prospect tournament according to Washington assistant GM Ross Mahoney. He is in tough to make the Capitals roster due to the amount of depth signed to one-way deals. He is still on the light side for a defenseman but spending the year in the AHL should help his development against the larger competition. Pat Quinn

April 2015 – Djoos completed his third full season for Brynäs of the Swedish Hockey League posting his highest point total of his career at 17, five of them goals, in 50 games. They were eliminated in seven games with Djoos posting two points. At the end of March, he travelled to North America to join the Hershey Bears and finally played his first AHL game on April 18. He had one assist in his only game as he played well with his coach saying he is a “very cerebral player… he has great vision.” He is a good puck moving defenseman who should be on the radar in deep leagues, but he needs to improve on his 159-pound frame. Pat Quinn

February 2015 – Djoos set a new career high in both points and goals in Brynäs of the SHL with 17 and five respectively. He sits second on his team in points by defensemen and sees the second most ice on the team. It is impressive for a 20-year-old in the SHL playing top-pairing minutes on the blue line as it is not a regular occurrence. Djoos should come over to North America next season, and as long as he adds some weight to his frame, he should continue to progress. Pat Quinn

July 2014 – Djoos recently signed his three-year entry level contract with the Capitals after spending last season in Brynäs of the SHL where he put up 13 points in 47 games playing against bigger competition. He did manage three points in five playoff games to show his offensive potential, albeit in a small sample size. He has very good mobility and sees the ice very well, but he really lacks bulk and can get pushed off the puck easily in battles in the corner. He is slated to play for Brynäs in 2014-15 but should cross the pond after and attempt to adapt to the North American rinks and player size. Pat Quinn

December 2013 – Djoos had a good World Junior tournament for Sweden tallying four points in seven games, including the game-tying goal in the gold medal game against Finland. Djoos was lucky enough to see plenty of powerplay time over the course of the tournament and proved his worth on the big ice. It’s a good sign but his NHL future is still very much up in the air. Nathan Kanter

December 2013 – Djoos is a vastly undersized defenseman who already has plenty of pro experience from the Swedish Hockey League (SHL, formely the Swedish Elite League). He is the son of former Red Wing and Ranger defenseman Par Djoos, who played just 82 career NHL games but had a successful career back home in Sweden. The younger Djoos tallied 24 points in 40 games in the SuperElit League during his draft year (Top Swedish Junior league) and won a Silver medal at the U-18’s in 2012. In 2012-13 he graduated from junior and spent the entire season with Brynas of the SHL tallying eight points in 47 games. He once again represented Sweden internationally, this time bringing home a Silver medal from the World Juniors (U-20’s). This season Djoos has just four assists in 30 games for Brynas but remember he is only a 19-year-old and is competing against men. He was recently named to Sweden’s World Junior squad for the second straight year. Djoos is a good puck rusher with solid hockey smarts but his offensive skills aren’t dazzling and his defensive game is also lacking. At barely 160, his future in the NHL depends on him bulking up. Nathan Kanter
