Oscar Fisker-Mølgaard

September 2026 – After competing in the SHL in 2024-2025, Molgaard came to North America to join the Coachella Valley Firebirds, scoring 10 goals and adding 24 assists in 49 games. His performance in the minors earned him a 13-game call-up to the NHL where he managed two assists, playing nine minutes in mostly fourth line action.

Molgaard’s play in the AHL showed an ability to adapt to the North American game as a complementary player. His offensive showing was decent (10th in goals on the team and fourth in assists in fewer games than his peers) but did not stand out. He provided just under two shots and less than half a hit per game, so multi-cat intrigue is not apparent yet either.

His faceoff win totals and win percentage were in the 80th percentile and 55th percentile of the league respectively, which is notable given that he was a young rookie in the AHL. If he can become a reliable faceoff option while being a positive play driver, he has utility at the NHL level regardless of whether the offensive contributions materialize. The Kraken benefitted from his play-driving when he was on the ice. His Fenwick% (the percentage share of shots for versus against while he was on the ice) as well as his Net xG (the expected goals scored minus the expected goals allowed while he was on the ice) were in the top 25% of the AHL. Essentially, the box score output wasn’t tantalizing, but the underlying play-driving numbers are intriguing.

These metrics are promising pieces given that there isn’t a great deal to hang our hats on for him at the moment. As other Firebirds move up or move on, opportunities for more deployment will present themselves to Molgaard, and the fact that he saw a 13-game NHL call-up over some other more incumbent players in the system is a strong indication of the organization’s faith in him.

What we will need to watch for is which fork in the road he will steer down. Will he be a meaningful fantasy contributor, or a player who is better in real life than in fantasy? He hasn’t veered yet, and this season will give us a better indication of which is more likely. He is a worthwhile farm stash in deep leagues, though he is not as blue-chip or as certain as other players in the system. The bottom-six NHL path appears to be clear. Alex Wyatt

March 2025- Fisker-Mølgaard’s SHL season slightly improved on his 2023-24 performance. Though he only provided five goals and 14 assists for 19 points, a step down from the previous year’s 9-12-21 line, he has been limited to only 37 games this season, a considerable decrease from the 50 he skated in prior. Mølgaard’s hallmark is not his offense; he is a defensively sound, solid-skating center who reads the play well. Reading a youngster’s offensive output in the SHL is difficult, as only 48 players since 2009-2010 have scored better than 0.50 points per game and are 20 years old or younger. Mølgaard’s output this season puts him just on the tail end of that range. He came to North America-a good sign- and put up two goals and an assist in seven games with Coachella Valley. He’s still worth watching, as his move to North America will give us much more to measure, but he currently belongs on your watchlist rather than your roster. Alex Wyatt

October 2024 – Fisker-Mølgaard put in some solid growth in his sophomore SHL season, upping his totals from seven points (four goals and three assists) in 41 games to 21 points (nine goals and 12 assists) in 50 games in 2023-2024. He is set to play there again in 2024-2025, and it will be necessary for managers to watch the overall progression versus the bulk point totals for this season. Alex Wyatt

April 2023 – Mølgaard’s rapid learning and adaptation to SHL hockey have quickly moved him toward the top of many lists, including ours. What stands out most about Mølgaard was his ability to match intensity and physicality despite often being smaller than his opponents. He is intelligent on and off the puck, knowing when to engage, where to be, and how to attack. He won many battles along the boards, mostly by utilizing his quick maneuvers to the inside. Mølgaard’s 7 SHL points this season are respectable, but his professional-level scoring ability once again comes down to his desire to get involved in high-intensity plays. Most of his goals scored in any league this season were accomplished by battling net-front for loose pucks or deflections. He served this role well on his teams, though he only recorded 17 shots on goal the entire season, the lowest of any forward that played more than 25 games with the club in 2022-23. Alexa Potack

March 2023 – Oscar Fisker Mølgaard is a forward who has carved out a third-line SHL role as a first-time draft eligible by playing a remarkably refined professional game. Fisker Mølgaard plays with tremendous intensity and purpose; he reads the ice better than most U21 SHLers, let alone U18s. Defensively, he plays very well in a compact system and applies excellent pressure on the right man at the right time. A future role as a key defensive forward in an NHL bottom-six is easy to envisage. Offensively, he flashes his intelligence and timing by consistently finding and exploiting soft ice, which is facilitated by his constant unpredictable off-puck movement and his willingness to attack the slot. He is significantly stronger off-puck offensively than he is with the puck on his stick. His passing and playmaking skills are around league average, and his handling and shooting project are fourth-line caliber tools.

To unlock the 2nd line upside – which his intelligence, intensity, and defensive skill would support – Fisker Mølgaard will need to work on his offensive tools, which an organization with a strong development team could help make a reality. He may not be the biggest bet on upside available in the 2023 class, but Oscar Fisker Mølgaard is a high-likelihood NHLer with the potential to unlock a highly impactful upside. Sebastian High
