Ethan Wyttenbach

March 2026 – The accolades are real and worth talking about – first-ever Gaudreau Award winner, ECAC All-Rookie, ECAC First All-Star, and his name is in the Hobey Baker conversation. Leading all of college hockey in scoring as a fifth-round pick at 144th overall is not something you wave away. But the production and the player aren’t telling the same story. Wyttenbach goes to open space, and he’s very good at finding it – but in college hockey, that role exists in abundance, and it doesn’t really exist in the NHL. The skating is below average for his size, the offensive zone decision-making gets loose when he actually has the puck, and the reads aren’t always there under pressure. What he’s doing is impressive in context. The concern is that the context is doing a lot of the work. In fantasy, the goal rate is appealing on paper, but production in a harder environment is needed before buying in at cost. Ryan Downey

August 2025 – It is fitting that the Flames selected Wyttenbach – the first-ever recipient of the USHL’s Gaudreau Award. This fifth-round selection at 144 overall has immense value. The 5-10 winger slid in a draft hyper-focused on size. Wyttenbach racked up 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points in 44 USHL games. His play is driven by his strengths – detail-oriented scanning and a hard-nosed, no-quit attitude. A common thread in the Flames’ 2025 class: if they opt for an undersized skilled player, they pack a punch or two. Wyttenbach will join the NCAA ranks in his D+1 season and may not be so under the radar by 2026. Arden McLeod

June 2025 – Selected 144th overall, Ethan Wyttenbach is now a member of the Calgary Flames. He was the first-ever recipient of the Gaudreau Award, given to the USHL player who best embodies the legacy of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Wyttenbach is committed to playing with Quinnipiac University during the 2025-26 season, which should provide him with an opportunity to develop further.. Mark Henry
