Fantasy Summary

A late-round pick emerging with offensive capabilities who racks up a lot of penalty minutes.

Observations

September 2026 – Dawson Sharkey played his first season with the Newfoundland Regiment after the franchise relocated from Acadie-Bathurst  In 60 regular-season games, he scored 33 goals, added 29 assists for 62 points, and racked up 128 penalty minutes, leading the QMJHL in that category for the second straight year. He added six goals and 11 points in the playoffs.

Sharkey is a power forward who plays with hostility. He gets to the net, gets to loose pucks, and does not give opponents space. His shot is genuinely dangerous, a quick wrister from the mid-slot that he gets off under pressure and buries with accuracy. The improvement from 39 points the year before to 62 this season shows real development, not just a plain age advantage. His forechecking creates turnovers that turn into offense, and he drew penalties at a high rate.

The concern is discipline. The 128 penalty minutes are not all competitive. He takes bad infractions that put his team short, and that habit will not survive college officiating, let alone the pro game. His skating is adequate, not a burner, not stiff. He committed to Northeastern this summer, which gives him a full college runway to refine his habits and conditioning.

Fantasy managers should watchlist Sharkey strictly as a long-term flier. His route to the NHL runs through multiple years at Northeastern, and the penalty discipline is a real barrier. But the size, the shot, and the compete level are not nothing.  Andrew Epps

August 2025 – The Stars went out and got their guy at 190th overall. Sharkey was not ranked by most public outlets – Dobber Prospects, Elite Prospects, and TSN all left him off their boards. In his draft year, the 6-1 right wing managed only 17 points in 41 QMJHL games, which he scaled up to 39 points in 54 games this season, in his D+1 year. It’s a strong development, but does not point to much of a ceiling, as D+1 players are expected to be more assertive in the CHL.

At this point in the draft, each pick is more of an unknown commodity – and that rings true for Sharkey. Dallas has a prospect system in dire need of high-ceiling players. There were other forwards available who showed tantalizing offensive upside, like Aidan Lane (198th by CBJ), and forwards who play complete games, like Filip Ekberg (221st by CAR), that could have been a better fit. Arden McLeod

June 2025 – Selected 190th overall, Dawson Sharkey is now a member of the Dallas Stars. Mark Henry
