July 2025 – A second-year draft-eligible prospect, Yan Matveiko, was selected 211th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2025 NHL Draft. His 2023-24 season in Russia’s top junior league, which he spent with Krasnaya Armiya Moskva in the MHL, yielded only one point in 26 games. This performance led to his undrafted status in the 2024 NHL Draft. In the 2024-25 season, Matveiko experienced a significant offensive breakout, scoring 24 points (10 goals and 14 assists) in 42 regular-season games. He also added four points (one goal and three assists) in six playoff games with Krasnaya Armiya Moskva. Ultimately, Matveiko will need to prove that 202-25 was not a fluke and will look further into his development once again in the MHL with Krasnaya Armiya Moskva during the 2025-26 season. Although the Calgary Flames and Russian scout Denis Grebeshkov believe Matveiko could play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Additionally, Flames Director of Amateur Scouting Tod Button reported to Flames TV that Matveiko experienced a significant growth spurt during the 2024-25 season and is now closer to 6-4, 185 pounds.
