Viggo Nordlund

September 2026 – Nordlund made a successful pro debut with IK Oskarshamn in the HockeyAllsvenskan, posting 26 points in 52 games which is certainly an intriguing return for a teenage winger in Sweden’s second tier. He will make another run at a Skelleftea SHL roster spot this year after a limited trial engagement last season produced nothing. The upside is genuine: elite skill in transition, a good shot, and passing ability that exceeds what you’d expect from a sixth-round pick. The size at 5-9 is the persistent limitation and will require him to play a disciplined, intelligent game rather than trying to impose himself physically. The Jackson Blake comparison – a similar undersized profile who has made it work in the NHL – is the right model to keep in mind. How his SHL campaign develops will tell Carolina a great deal. August 2025 – Nordlund is an example of a prototypical Hurricanes pick in the later rounds. He has all the skill in the world, having a good shot and better passing ability, and a solid skating foundation. But the downside is obvious, with Nordlund only being 5-9. Again, they bet on the offensive talent that Nordlund has and hope that he can continue to adapt to his smaller size and become a more complete player. Nick Bass
