Anton Ohlsson

June 2023 – Ohlsson had created some buzz at the start of the year with some impressive performances in the Swedish J20 league for Brynäs, but quickly fell off the map as the season went on. He ended his 2022-23 campaign with 14 goals and 34 points in 45 games at the junior level, and made three appearances in the SHL while being kept off the scoresheet.

Ohlsson’s game revolves around playmaking. He can zip passes accurately through screens, using a variety of different passes to hit his target. He can hook, slip, or saucer pass his way out of tight scenarios, but other than that, his game lacks variety. An average shooter who doesn’t particularly manipulate opponents well, Ohlsson’s hockey sense is limited to his ability to choose the right type of pass for the situation.  Outside of that, his processing, deception, handling skill and manipulation are subpar. He also doesn’t have the best skating, but his mechanics are solid. As he fills out his frame, perhaps that should improve. Overall, Ohlsson is a mid-round bet that offers a decent amount of upside, but nothing out of this world. His defensive game is good enough that he could become a playmaking bottom-six center, but outside of that, there isn’t much room to add more to his game. Hadi Kalakeche
