Jack Thompson

March 2026 – Thompson heads to Vancouver in the Jett Woo swap, bringing a strong shot and natural power-play instincts that have yet to fully translate into consistent AHL production. The 23-year-old received a brief NHL look with San Jose but has spent the majority of his time in the minors, and his projection remains that of a seventh or eighth defenseman at best. A change of scenery could provide a modest reset opportunity, but fantasy value is limited to the deepest of leagues. – Victor Nuño

June 2025 – Thompson saw 31 games at the NHL level in 2024-25 and put up 10 points, which are decent results for a player who did not get much playing time for the Sharks. His AHL production has been at about half a point per game. This would seem to indicate that his offensive potential is likely not translating from the Junior ranks just yet. Unfortunately for him, San Jose’s prospect depth, including on defense, is growing deeper each year. At this point, it is challenging to project Thompson receiving a significant opportunity to showcase his offensive ability unless he starts asserting dominance on the power play at the AHL level. Currently, it does not appear that he will be more than the 7th defenseman for the Sharks in the foreseeable future, considering the deep prospect pool on the rise in San Jose. Ioan Gheordanescu

June 2022 – Thompson had a very good 2021-2022 season. He tallied 69 points in 74 games in the regular season along with 14 points in nine playoff games, averaging around 25 minutes a night. He is eligible to play in the AHL next season and should compete for a spot on the team. He’s got a great shot, which he needs to utilize more on the power play. If his offensive game doesn’t develop he could easily be a second or third-pair defenseman who chips in around 30 points by the time he makes the NHL. Caleb Kerney
