April 2023 – Lohrei improved his offensive output in his sophomore season, putting up four goals and 28 assists in 40 games. He showed no signs of slowing down from an offseason knee surgery that caused him to miss development camp in the Summer, logging big minutes as the shutdown workhorse on the Ohio State blue line. Now that the Buckeyes season ended, Lohrei now sets his sights on turning pro, signing an Amateur tryout agreement in the AHL with Providence to end the regular season and playoffs. Lohrei signed a two-year entry-level deal as well. He will have a great chance of cracking the NHL roster next season, as the Bruins have some pending UFA defensemen and defensemen entering the final year of their contracts that could be trade chips in the Summer to clear up some cap room. The big 6-4 defenseman would make a good value option on a Bruins team facing a cap crunch next season. Nate Duffett
May 2022 – Lohrei completed his first NCAA season at Ohio State University where he scored 29 points in 31 games, which was 4th in the NCAA for rearguards in points per game behind just Jake Sanderson, Owen Power, and Luke Hughes. Lohrei didn’t shoot 27% like he did in the USHL, but his shooting percentage of eight is still a bit high. At least his primary and secondary assist rate was the same. Lohrei’s transition to the NCAA was fantastic, his fluid skating and four way mobility make him one of the best players on the ice at all times. He rarely got caught out of position and was able to defend well in just about any situation. On a team with more offense, his point total would have been even higher. He might compete for a spot on the Bruins next season, but more than likely he will be with the Providence Bruins and it will be good to see how he performs against professional men. In college, his physical game was strong getting a half a hit and one and half blocks per game. His upside remains as a top four defender with good, but not great offensive capability. Victor Nuño
July 2021 – Lohrei finished first among USHL defensemen and sixth among all skaters in scoring during the 2020-21 campaign. He was more than 10 points ahead of the next closest blueliner, producing a total of 19 goals and 59 points in 48 games for the Green Bay Gamblers. His goal total may have been buoyed by a high shooting percentage of 18.6, but nevertheless, the production was still nice to see from the second-round pick. Lohrei will now transition to the NCAA, where he will hope to continue refining his game with the Ohio State University. Chris Mazza
October 2020 – Lohrei was drafted by the Bruins with the 58th overall selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. A deft puck carrier, he is patient when moving up ice, drawing in defenders only to quickly deke past them. He finished his draft year second among USHL defensemen in total points with 37, including eight goals and 16 power play points. He has a large frame and knows how to use it, protecting the puck on offense and standing his ground on defense. He will spend another season with the Green Bay Gamblers before beginning his NCAA career with THE Ohio State University. As he will be an older freshman, don’t be surprised if Lohrei immediately steps into a significant role with the Buckeyes. Chris Mazza
